Is that the stock opti spark? I haven't had to change mine YET and I am curious to know why I haven't seen anyone upgrade to the opti spak II conversion. Is is a costly upgrade and a big hassle? Don't mean to butt in on your thread bra..

Elliot, not the stock opti, but it is an "oem ac delco opti". my 383 went in with the newer style vented opti setup about 6,000 miles ago.

revelation, ill have to bring in my set of torx bits to get that cap off, ill check in the morning and post more pics.

I think the same thing to myself as well. For both the opti and the water pump. But I am picking up a new pump next week (to have just in case), got a good deal on it.

I put a EWP on..we will see how long it lasts..hoping a while considering I don't drive the car much.

are there any real advantages to an EWP over the stock one?

the rivets are one of the weaker parts of the Opti.

High RPM's are the typical reason rotors get lose. Might want to swap in a MSD rotor & cap. The MSD has screws holding the rotor. Put loc-tite on the threads

You said 'new" motor...

confirm pin on cam is not to long and pushing Opti.

Free's up some hp..I noticed it more top end. I've seen dyno charts with 5-9rwh and 10rwtq gains. Engine stays cooler especially in hot weather. Haven't seen mine go pass 185-190 deg. since the install. They are rated at 2500 hours which to me is good because I don't drive the car much.

Hope you get the car back together man!
I had to replace my water pump a while back and it lasted for about 5,000 miles and the front seal started leaking around the cover that bolts to it. Had to fix that and then the plastic flow valve on the hose going into the heater core started leaking. So I know how much of a PITA it can be to have to replace or redo a job over again. Good Luck!

hmmm, i see. everything is tight though. the dowel pin has been replaced with the correct length, the first one that was in there was too long but its gone.

What part of the opti does moisture tend to ruin?
