Default Tunes?

Again more newbie questions with the LT1... can you tune the stock computer and get anything out of it? Or do I just send it off and get a new one. If so is there anyone in granbury, weatherford...south fort worth that does it?

Yes there are a few good tuners that can tune your stock computer which almost becomes essential when certain mods start happening. I do not know the limits of the stock computer but it seems like 95% of people on here are still using them. Im assuming your in Texas and I want to say that Ed Wright is as well? Might want to check into him, hes one of the best LTX tuners.

You can do it yourself, if you consider yourself computer/technically literate.
If not, do a mail-order tune. Obviously, there are dis/ad]vantages to both.
If you DIY, you can tune and tweak anytime the desire strikes. The mail-order
tuners, pretty much, have seen all the various scenarios and can get you
going out of the box, without you having to worry about which tweaks work
together and which dont.

Do ya'll know of a shop or somewhere north texas that can tune a car all in the same day? Its not like tuning a mainly stock car or a car cammed with an off the shelf cam should take too god awful long. Or am I better off just getting a pcm from pcmforless or whatever and paying the extra 125$ core and then send my old computer back. I just can't be out of a car for a week or so...

Trifecta Performance is a good choice if you don't want to have your car down, plus they are a sponsor. Instead of sending your PCM in, they send you a handheld tuner with the tune already on it. Hook it up to the car and it uploads the tune into the PCM. You just have to send back the tuner after you are done.

That looks like a nice option. Would it be much of a gain from the HPP3 I have in it now?

Yes, definitely. The Hypertech isn't really much of a tuner to begin with and is pretty much useless. You'll probably see a 10+hp gain with a mail order tune depending on your current mods.

You may wanna post in the Texas section about a tune, there are some places that do OBD II LT1's but not many that are sponsors on here.

You mean 10 hp more than the HPP3 or 10 hp from the mail order tune?

It really doesn't matter. The Hypertech probably did not net you any hp gain. I'm just throwing the 10hp gain out there. Some cars will benefit from a tune more than others such as cars with a bigger cam. Even if your car is stock, the stock tune can be gone over and you'll see a nice improvement.
