Default Corvette LT4 in LT1 T/A?

Well one of my fathers long time friends has a 96' ce corvette with about 30kmi. He's chucking the LT4 and having an entire new race motor built. So he offered me the motor for an ABSOLUTE steal! And my question is... Is it worth it? And will it be a fairly easy/cheap swap? I plan on having the heads ported and adding a new cam. If any you guys have an idea of how much it would cost and what extras I would need please chime in. Im trying to keep it simple and i might not even mess with the heads+cam. Any words appreciated.

It should be an almost direct swap a few things that would help is the knock sensor setup do a search here to see exactly how.

as for cams the stock lt4 is not bad for starting but the cc503 is what I want to swap too.

Check on the fuel line locations that might be one area, your lt1 computer will run it I run really rich. PCM's for less can tune it for you though.

An LT4 is just better intake, heads, cam, rocker arms and 4 bolt main. Should not give you much of a hassle at all.

The accessories are arranged differently as well so you will probably want to take care of that, but other than that all it is is a 4-bolt LT1 with a mild heads/cam package.

Just remove all ove the Vette front accessories and bolt on your F body stuff. Make sure to get the correct valvesprings for the cam you plan on putting in it.

Are the Vette and F body oil pans the same? You may want to look into that.

Now that's a good point. I'm not 100% sure but I wanna say they are not....

Well your dad's friend is a tard for starters, not for building another motor instead of the LT4, that is smart, but for not KEEPING the LT4 -_- One year it was avail in the Vettes! Do people not think about 'down the line' when they have cars o_0

Oh well, buy it! Either use it as is, or whatever heh You'll be happy you have another LT motor around!

If its a "steal deal" then hell yeah, why NOT have an LT4?

Use your accessories, exhaust manifolds, fuel rail and oil pan. Get your PCM tuned.

The Oil Pans are the same..a regular passenger-side dip-stick Gen I SBC Pan will work on these things, it's just the Oil Level Sensor Bung that is the difference.

As far as the Engine..just un-bolt the Acessories and Fuel Rails, and put on yours from the F-body.

was this '96 CE an M6 car? if so it's LT4, if it's auto it's LT1 (my CE was LT1/auto ... pretty but slow)

better heads/intake
if the price is right, at least buy the engine

LT4 heads and intake flow more than LT1 so if price is right, buy the motor you will use your accessories etc since I'm sure he will keep his

He is probably making an AFR based LT4 head with an air gap and using a 2 bolt main block. 2 bolt are stronger blocks the webbing is thicker. But a 4 bolt will have less main cap walk.

If he splays the 2 bolt or uses a man girdle the 2 bolt is stronger And an AFR setup would easily outflow the LT4 heads
