I had hooker super comp headers and a borla cat-back. sounded nasty, but i wasn't to thrilled about the headers. I now have a pair of dynatech longtubes waiting to go on after i rebuild my engine...eventually.

I think there is a LOT of missunderstanding about headers and even more bench racing of them.
Below is a pic of the headers I have used sofar, IMO both fit cleanly into the midlength catagory both are pictured with pipes that adapt them to stock style b-body catbacks. The Tri-Ys actually have a 2.5" collector. You can see I tagged them with measurements, both are 1 5/8 primaries.
I could not really tell a difference performance wise between them(not particulary careful about tracking stuff anyway), I bought the second set for fitment reasons as the 4-tube were designed for iron heads and I had to pull the passenger side one to change plug number 6.
If midlength and 1 5/8" are such huge handicaps I wonder what this pig would have done with "good" headers.

Best power for the money? Pacesetter LTs and an exhaust of your choice. If you can weld, then you can easily, and inexpensively fabricate a dumped dual system in an afternoon. If you want a catback then you should look at Hooker or Magnaflow. You can get either of them brand new for under $400 shipped to your door from a site sponsor (heavy6.0 I believe is his user name) Pop a cutout into the I pipe if you want one.

The easiest and cheapest setup would be Pacesetter LT's and a universal x-pipe from either Jegs or Summitracing. The kits are essentially the same from either place and priced the same too. The Pacesetter LT's will cost you around $300 shipped, maybe a little less. And a 3" x-pipe kit will only be $95+shipping. Then, just get a couple mufflers of your choice and dump them right before the rear axle. Then, you have a whole exhaust system for around $500. That's what I'm currently in the process of doing. But, I'm going to have tubing ran under the axle, to out back, since I don't like the look of no tips.

Pacesetter LT's w/ory and a flowmaster super 40 catback with the single 3" outlet would be a decent setup!
