pin kit for crank hub
Trying to help a friend out with little knowledge of the internet world.
He just had an LT-4 rebuilt for his 96 impy ss, running 10lbs of boost with a vortec s/c. While on the way over to a tuning facility, the crank hub walked off, and needless to say, dead on arrival. New hub on national back order. He checked everything out, crank snout and what not, everything is ok. Question is, do they make a pin kit for this app? I know they make one for the LS-1. He can still use the old crank hub if need be. The other question that came up, are the LT-1 and LT-4 hubs interchangable?
Thanks for any advice, Scott.

Sounds like you think the LT4 is something significantly different from an LT1? It is not, and is not worthwhile either but too late to go down that road.
No pin kit I have ever heard for for the LT1.
Honestly if using the b-body accessories he should have been using the LT1 hub already. The differences between LT1 and LT4 hubs would be CHASSIS specific not engine.
Get the hub keyed, the crank is.

well, as far as going down the wrong road, he initially was going with a 383 stroker from golen, but due to timing of the build, lucked upon a rebuilt lt-4 for cheap. figuring he was already 70hp ahead with the lt-4 for now. as far as the hub, he went with the lt-4 version, still has the original lt-1 hub, not knowing if the two were interchangable. he just wants to get it running for the rest of the year and do a stroker over winter. with the intercooler, he figures close to 600hp. and no , i didn't think the lt-4 was that much better. didn't know i came off that way. i had a lt-1 wagon and a ss clone for a few years prior to my hawk. wish i still had the wagon though. thanks for the info. i can't see your sig writing this out, so what are you running to get 11's?

Heads and cam NA on a stock shortblock. Ported LT1 heads at that and I try and keep it below 6500rpms. All my 11.9 passes have been at GLD which is 150 miles from home, last time she was on a trailer was in 96 on the way to the dealer, 3400 stall and 3.73s are true daily driver freindly.
Golen is NOT a good choice, depending who reworked the LT4 he may have indeed gotten lucky here, more than he knew.
If the LT4 crank was turned undersize during the rebuild it was effectively ruined as an LT4 crank as it cuts the "undercut and rolled fillets".

the s/c belt runs on a pulley bolted to the crank hub, balancer. maybe they didn't have the bolts torqued or had loctite on them.not sure on what they did or didn't do. but isn't that hub a press fit also? anyway, what suggetion would you have for a decent builder for his supercharger application? thanks again, sounds like you have a nice d/d and a racer rolled into one.

Again have to match the accessories depth from block, if the b-body bracket need a b-body hub.
Far as I can tell Pioneer has a 872016 hub for 94-5 b-bodies but not one for a 96 which needs a slightly shorter one to make room for the CPS reluctor, might look at that one and see about getting it machined down or you could consider doing away with the cps reluctor but I don't think that is a good solution as it would pose some emissions testing hassles.

If a local machine shop can not machine a key slot in your hub, buy one from Thunder as noted in this thread or have Golen send one. IIRC they charge $50.
Mr Jennings has no direct experience with Golen and many others do not share his opinion on Golen motors.
Good luck with the fix.....a SC motor will need a keyed hub.

thanks for the heads up. suprised vortec didn't do this in the first place. as far as i know, my friends imp ss was one of the first s/c application back in 95-96. so maybe didn't have enough r & d on them. all i know is when the car still had the original lt-1 with the s/c, when it finally hooked up, bye bye. i got to get him on this board, and learn the ways of the internet. later
