Default Parts Store Opti A No-No?

I'm trying to run down a hesitation and intermittent miss and intake backfire problem and had a question. A while back I got some work done on my car before the rebuild and didn't know much about the car and the shop, who uses NAPA parts exclusively, used a remanufactured opti, this one -

Is this a poor quality opti? I'm worried because for a short time I had a leak that I believe at the time caused me to misfire because it was above the opti, possibly reaching it and also hit the belt causing it to squeak. I fixed the leak but the problem remained off and on. One day the car runs like a champ, the next day it wants to miss and/or hesitates a lot.

They're all the same as long as you get the whole thing. Can't remember much more than that.

i would replace the opti connector just to make sure that is not where your problem is coming from. I've heard of quite a few people having problems with the connectors.

Bah. They were back when i was messing with the stupid things. I somehow doubt one could be better than another, though.

Even have to watch out for the AC Delco's. I bought one from the dealership way back, Installed it and the car would just backfire, Took it apart the the rotor piece was pressed on 180 degrees out!!

Yea, I didn't know anything about the lt1 then, I had just come from the v6. I've learned quite a lot since then. If I get an opti, it will be GM or nothing. Thanks for helping me narrow down my problems, everyone. I think I'll do the OTVC wire kit too, just in case. I do have shorties, but I saw a few wires pretty close to the headers when I was changing O2's, and couldn't zip tie them away any better than they already were.

And good point, moehorsepower, everything should be fully checked to spec, especially when you're spending this much money.

It also kind of studders sometimes, like before it misses, and i try and throttle through it and it misses. It does this but I see nothing fluctuating on the tach that matches the sound/feel of the motor fluctuating/stuttering...that sound familiar too?

Yup, one of my symptons was on light throttle it would shutter then if I accelerated like say half throttle it would go away..

I am getting the ignition system checked by my preferred shop tomorrow....lets just hope it chooses to act up tomorrow. Some days it's barely noticeable...

I will post results, if any.
