The advertised powerband for that cam is pretty far off just so you are aware. The manufacturers in general have rpm ranges that are not so accurate. That cam is known as the cc306 and I think it will pull to about 6200-6400 on stock heads, maybe someone with that cam can chime in. Its a very good cam but I myself think its too big for a stock headed/short block application. It sounds very nasty and may or may not be what you want but we cannot tell you until you give a rundown on the car, your plans/goals, etc.

A custom is gonna run you another $100-150.

well i plan in the near futre to put heads on put for now i have done all i can do without tearin my block down got 2500 stall which i am not happy with but it will do for now i'd like to get in the 11's on a stock short block no juice but i see that as hard to do without it ... i am fairly mechanicly inclined but i dont know alot about cams and stuff trying to learn also want to start tuning myself as there is now one around here who does it and i can pay for my mods that way heheheheheheh.. just would like a good cam for a stock block and heads but be in a good bower band with 342 or 373's but i also like the pounding of a big cam but one guy told me a cam with sound aint goin to help me cause that is all i would have i laughed at him but then what do i know lmmao

It won't be a stock short block w/ an aftermarket cam in it.
306 isn't going to like that 2500 stall. you'll need to go to a 3600 and the 3.42 rear isn't going to help things. You might actually run a slower 60' after going to the cam, lol.
Like said above you'll have to spin the motor pretty high to get the power from the cam and if you've got a high mileage motor you might get a few passes out of it before it starts slinging parts out.

crane 227 unless your going to change your stall the duration isn't as long you will have similar lift #'s w/ 1.6rr's and rpm range is 1500-5700 but then again it is almost as much as a custom ground cam that will probably net 10 more hp...
