open borla vs. open cutout?
i cant remember where i read this and i cant find it again. but it seems like i read that having longtubes, ory, and a borla catback with no plate was almost the same as having lt's, ory, and an open cutout. is that true? just wondering for my own personal knowledge.

I have long tubes with ORY and catback, the plates come out so you can run wide open if you like but my car was so load i put the full plate back in, sounds bad@$$ now!

with an open borla the direction of the flow path would be straight out before entering the muffler.if its closed it sends it through the muffler. so if you ran a different muffler with a cutout before the muffler it would be the same setup. go for the sound that you want

Coming from a person that used to have an open cutout, its a totally different sound. The Borla sounds way different than a open cutout, even at wot the sound is different. Im not sure about hp differences but I sure sa hell like my open plate Borla over my cutout.

MeanLT1 and Racin96 are dead-on, they sound nothing alike and performance depends, if you mean by ORY (pre-axle) mounted (single cutout) ...ehhh it'd be very minimal performance wise on a dyno. If you were talking about dual cutouts mounted post-LTs then you could bump up the rwhp about 13 and torque around 11-12 with a bolt-on stock for the most part cammed LTXX. The sound with dual cutouts are ear-blistering...just ask BIZZATCH ...lol..he knows

My exhaust setup was as follows... 1-7/8" SS KooK's headers, 3" stainless Y-pipe with no cats and dual 3" electric cut-outs about 10"-12" from the collector, Borla with no plate. (I now run a Corsa cat-back)
Results on my H/C/I LT4
Cutouts closed on the dyno - 392 rwhp and 370 rwtq
Cutouts open (very next run) - 401 rwhp and 375 rwtq
I actually picked up close to 15 tq lower in the rpm range (2,800 - 3,800 rpms) with the cutouts open, which surprized the hell out of me. I never ran the car on the dyno with the Borla capped off, and if I did, I imagine I would have lost 5-10hp more than with it uncapped.
As far as sound goes... the open dual cutouts are just stupid loud, a little muddy down low in the rpm's, but once you get past 3,000... ohh baby!
