Default how many miles to break-in magnaflow catback?

everyone says when a magnaflow catback is first installed it is really quiet and once its broken in the real sound comes out. about how long or how many miles does it take to get the exhaust to this point?

well its not necessarily a break in...but theres something in the muffler that i guess needs to be burnt out and the muffler gets louder after.

I have heard of a "burn in period" for mufflers and cat backs, but never a "break in" period. I have seen it with my other car, at first it was quite as hell but after 500 miles it got a deeper sound to it. why not, when a muffler is going bad does it not get louder?

It's those muffler bearings. They haven't completely settled until at least 800 miles. If you get on it too hard before then, your muffler could go out.

this is all in ur mind, put it on, rev it up (to get out any loose rust/ metal particles out of the piping) and enjoy!

this is what im talking about, as i said earlier its not a break in period. i just said that for a lack of anything better to call it. and thanks badazz for actually giving me an answer instead of all the smartass "muffler bearing" comments.

i can attest to this man. Took mine about 500 miles to "burn in" It did have a noticeable sound, and got abit louder. Still pretty quiet when not at WOT but it did get abit louder forsure. Its not just in your head man.

Only time I have ever heard of any kind of "break in or burn period" for a muffler was for people getting a set of glasspacks hot and then running water hose up in them and the cooling effect breaks the glass up and it blows it all out the exhaust and turns all the water to condensation and eventually blows all of it out too.

mine sounded the same now as it did 1,000 miles ago when i installed it brand new..... sounded great then and sounds great now! i understand what you meant but understand this in the internet and people like to have a little fun with questions..... and you would be surprized how many people might think you really need to break in exaust.... the same guys who think you must put 500+ miles on a motor or tranny before it can be driven hard...... but i can see why some would think that a packed muffer might get a little more throaty after some heat cycles..... maybe it does but i couldnt tell much a difference at all if any after i put some miles on mine! jake

I have a Magnaflow on my stock 2k T/A. It was quiet as stock when I first got it. After about 3000 miles of driving, idle has stayed the same, but the muffler has gotten a deeper sound to it. Still not loud at all, but has a nice bassy tone to it when I get on it. Not deafening, but a really nice, muscular exhaust note that doesn't get the attention of cops.
