Default Manual fan turn on switch is it worth it

I was just wondering, since our cars computor retards spark advance when it's hot and cold. When i'm cruising around town my speed limit in town is 35mph. That's not really fast enough to keep my car cool i have to be doing 45 or higher. So in anyone's personal opionin is it worth to have the manual fan switch installed. How hard would it be and if anyone's got picture's on an install. all info appreciated

Why not just have the cars fan come on sooner? You don't really need a fan switch to keep the car cool. Though if you really want one just grab a switch from advance auto parts or autozone and wire it to a relay.

you can rig it up yourself with just the cost of the wire and the switch... figure out wha wire to the pcm is the fan (left or right either one ) then wire to the switch then two the fan.... thats it.

You can modify the fan turn on temps with any tuning software.

~$70 for a manual fan switch that u have to think about turning on. OR ~$150 for a mailorder tune to automatically have the fans come on soon, increase performance, custom programming etc.

I'd rather spend a little more for a tune, unless you made the switch for free.

^$70?? Where do people come up with these figures? You might be out $15 if you use a fancy switch and wire.......
Link, shoebox diagram.

I think you are getting the $70 price from the SLP fan switch, which good luck getting the plug out of the head for the sending unit.......... which is a automatic switch that comes on lower.

You need no relay, just a double pole, double throw switch, and some wire, its real easy.

I like using it at the track, I'm laughing at everyone with their hoods open and pushing their cars. I drive my car up through the line, by the time its go time the temp gauge is sitting at 170, no problem.

just push a wire into the fan relay and then ground it to the brake lines. then the fans come on when the ignition is on.

I had one on my 96Z28, I liked it alot. Install was easy.It was nice to be able to turn the fans on while staging...but because its SLP you could also make one alot cheaper.

Bingo. Use that link and save yourself a nice chunk of change. A manual fan switch is indispensable for the track. Or just being stuck in traffic.

GREAT mod. Really really helped at the track to keep the temps down and during traffic. I bought one for about $40 from a guy who makes these for a living and it's top notch everything. Also bought a relayed EWP warning system from him for my pump if it starts to fail or the wiring isn't properly grounded.

I have a fan switch, e-waterpump, keep the hood open and push it when I can. Reason being is I also want to keep underhood/intake temperature down before a run. So please don't laugh at me.

Don't forget the ice pack on the intake manifold, that's another popular trick at the track.

I just don't see the point in the street lanes........you're running a street tire, so I would assume you are there for fun and not to clock off some record E/T. I suppose it makes a big difference on FI cars. Curious if anyone has ever measured the intake temp differences between pushing the car, or firing it up for a few seconds to move it. I imagine they all hit about the same temp by the time you line them up. If you have a CAI you aren't pulling air from under the hood, so shouldn't be a issue?
Just curious if anyone has actually measured the temperature of the intake manifold, would be interested in the results.

Yes def. wire your own switch up though, I remember why I did mine...... at the time I was in central valley CA, stuff gets hot out there real quick.
