Default Magnaflow Catback Q's

So I'm considering just getting a catback for my '93 Z28 to make it sound a bit better, and I'm thinking a Magnaflow. I liked the sound of it on the videos on LS1Sounds for LS1 cars, but all the videos of the LT1 cars with it sound really crackly and poppy (especially when letting off the gas) and I don't like that. Are those just bad videos, or is it really like that? And I can't really tell sound level either, so how much louder is it than stock?

Also, as far as price goes, the best I've found it so far is $340 with free shipping new, is there anywhere better?

Thanks for the help

It pops and crackles when u remove the cat which almost everyone does. IMO, almost all exhaust sounds better with a cat. I don't think that it is really all that much louder than stock exhaust either.

that's a damn good price, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the amount of pops and crackly sounds depends on it you have a cat and stock manifolds of headers, and I think less with stock mani's and cat.

LT1s pop and crackle sometimes by nature, but the amount you hear it REALLY depends on cats/no cats and manifolds/LTs or Mids...

Lots of the magnaflow setups on stock manifolds and a cat sound really good, and not too much louder than stock like others have said here.

Magnaflow setups with LTs/ORY tend to crackle, but I cant say anything bad about that

Thanks for all the info guys. Are there any other exhausts that are louder than the magnaflow that still sound good and deep (and are still cheap like the magnaflow)? I don't want it extremely loud (not like my other car), but I do want it to rumble more and just sound meaner . hehe

This is a TRUE statement right to a tee, i run the mag. cat-back, when it had stock manny's & cats it was really quite, but after the LTs & Ory (no cats) its pretty load, it has a totally different sound, its load enough that i am very sceptical anymore about letting it rip in town .

I run one with LT's and ORY, its not too loud at idle. It rumbles really good at idle, nice and deep. WOT it sounds awesome. I'll put a idle and rev video up tomorrow, sorry no driving vid my trans is blown again.

How does the sound level compare to a Flowmaster? I have a friend with the flowmaster muffler (just muffler replaced, stock piping still) on a 94 Z and it sounds about right for sound level like I would want. Nothing too obnoxiously loud, but definitely louder than stock.

I've ran Magnaflow on stock manifolds, LT's and a catted Y, and with LT's and ORY and it never not once popped or anything. I think it sounds clean as hell. My old car with flowmaster did all the time until I put Long Tubes on it. All the videos I've made of my car with Magnaflow sound alot different on the computer than it does in real life, computer doesn't give it any justice.

That sounds good. Thanks. How about the actual sound level of the magnaflow compared to the flowmaster? Like talking dB (not literally, just to get the sound "level" point), how loud are they compared to each other?

Cruising wise they are about the same but when you lay into it a little or go WOT the Magnaflow is definetly louder and a hell of alot cleaner.

Good .. Thanks. Like I said, I know somebody with a flowmaster muffler in it, and it sounds about right sound-level wise.... so if the magnaflow is similar then I'll be happy.....

Hooker is a good one and so is the magnaflow....340 is about right.....from everything i have heard... its tame and just a lil louder than stock until you stomp it.....then it opens up

if you want loud and kick *** go with the GMMG....but its gonna cost you some cheddar....

I know from experience....but its the best sounding exhaust in my opinion for a LT1

I loved my magnaflow. I had stock manifolds with a gutted cat and it was nice and quiet cruising and had an awesome bark at WOT...I never noticed crackling and popping like some do, but for some reason it sounds different than any of the vids I've seen...Plus a system for that price, and its SS is beyond awesome
