Default Diagnose this PLEASE!

Ok, well my car had a ticking noise before I put my headers on, so I thought and was told that it was probably an exhaust leak. Well I put the headers on and it still was ticking, thought it was maybe the shitty gaskets that came with them. So I just got done putting percy's seal for good gaskets on it and...you guessed it, IT STILL TICKS! It sounds like it could be coming from the passenger side area. Any ideas what it could be?

Pull your valve covers and take a look at your rockers, sounds like you might need to adjust them.

are you sure its an exhaust leak? does it go away when you rev the engine? or is it just there at idle. need more info.

it goes away at higher rpms. When I first start the car it sounds fine, then once it gets back down to a normal idling speed you can hear it. You can hear it ticking if you are just on the gas a little bit going down the road. But if you "get on it" it goes away.

Hows the oil change history? Do you know?

Lifters can go as far as 200k without problems, but gummed up lifters dont last too long without making noise...

What do you mean the oil change history? I change it every 3k miles or so. Use mobil 1 synthetic. The guy I bought it off of said he did the same. But just because he says that doesnt mean its true. I've had it for about...22k now.

As long as its been decently kept like you said, it shouldent be because of that. Mobil 1 is some good stuff too.

If you know how to check/adjust rockers, I would be doing that next (as long as your SURE its not an exhaust leak, they can be VERY tricky sometimes).

EDIT : How loud is the tick exactly? Like a sewing machine or like an actual TICK?

Take a cut pc of garden hose, put one end to your ear and move the other side around the area its coming from to help locate the exact area. Like a doctors stethascope(sp) Then go from there. Works pretty good to find exhaust leaks and youll be able to tell if its coming from under the valve covers.

So something thats not too bad? Really sounds like a small exhaust leak to me...

Over rev the car recently or anything bad? I still say pop your valve covers and check your rockers/pushrods just to be sure... But if its only sewing machine loud I dont think I would be worried.

I literally just put the gaskets on tonight and its still doing it. What would be a good way to fix the exhaust leak?

I dont think the brand new Pacesetters would be leaking, but you can check if you want. Same goes for the gaskets, it just sounds like an exhaust leak (but more than likely isnt, and could be something worse thats just starting now).

If its only on one side of the car it has to be a weak rocker/pushrod/lifter. If you really think its that bad (or it gets that bad) I would have it checked out (especially if you have no idea what you are doing).

Yeah, I hate to give the bad news man but...

If you hear something now that you dident before, and your nearly sure its not an exhaust leak... Then you might have something brewing in there, and if it gets any worse then you know.
