Big cubes, Big cam, Good heads......... or make it easier and do whatever setup is perfect for what you want and add some spray to get you the rest of the way.

i asked about 400 hp and everyone told me to go to lloyd elliot. He has really nice packages and i have seen videos of people using his le2 head and cam package pulling almost 400 hp through auto transmissions. He has a higher package for built bottom end motors which you should probably check out.

I would recommend going through them too. I'm going through them for my build this winter. There are many LT1's that achieve between 450rwhp - 500rwhp N/A it just takes the right setup.

Well, id go out on a limb and say $12k maybe?

I doubt my 398ci LT1 w/ AFR heads, big *** cam and a single plane will breach 450rw.

alright so i guess i will prolly just go with a cam and a nice port job and hope to meet 400 hp. but o well. i just got the lt1 for free from my friends dad and its in a running car. we are going to bore it out a little and go threw it all and put a small cam in and port it. its not costing me anything so i can't complain i am helping him work on cars for a little while but no big deal its all free to me.

Damn, $12K for 450hp? I'm at $6K and should make over 600hp easily. FI all the way.

it's not all about the dyno numbers. There are guys with less than 375rwhp running 11's all day long. If you have the right stall, gear, and suspension setup you can get very far without having to put down huge numbers on the dyno.

Correct you are FI, the poster wanted N/A power.

I should make close to 72xrw on nitrous, so we still bragin?

It is expensive as **** to build a n/a LT1, you can make power with adders all day, but motor cars are a whole different story.

yea i already have some suspension just trying to get more. didn't expect for an lt1 to fall in my hands for nothing.lol. can't tru nthat down even though i wanted a ls1 but a lt1 kills the 3.8 any day.

Big Hydraulic cam, well-designed bottom end that can spin to 7K, good tune ...
it's doable with the right heads and a free-flowing exhaust.

I expect to be above 450 with my new 383 setup. (see link in sig)

It's easier with a solid roller cam, but there's a whole lot more maintenance involved.
Certainly nothing I'd want to drive on the street. (but some people do)

See http://www.fast93z.com/mods.php for an example of what might be needed.
Tony had 450rwhp auto setups running both types. (ignore the NX components, those are for his N20 setup)
