Default Getting started with a bone stock Z28

I'm currently purchasing a 1997 Z28 Camaro that is completely stock with a M6 tranny. I want opinions on what mods to start with for an emissions legal car. My budget is very limited at the moment but am considering getting a set of LE1 heads and cam asap. I will be going with the ram air hood set up.

i would start with a tune up,plugs, wires etc, change all the fluids in the car...
...then intake and exhaust, before you move on to bigger things.

very nice....also if you are doing the LE stuff make sure you upsizr your injectors and get some nice headers...just make sure you hook your o2s back up...so odds are you will need some o2 extensions for that

I agree with the above, u need all the supporting mods for the head and cam package first, i would say CAI, headers, exhaust, gears then go on to cam heads n tune!

Heads and cam will suck with mid length headers. You can't do LTs if you want emissions legal.

I've heard flowmasters and slp loudmouth but not magnaflow. My first thought was slp loudmouth... but I'm liking the idea of true duals.

do plugs, wires, oil change, and maybe a coolant flush and fuel filter change depending on the miles. Then do LT headers, catback, CAI, and other supporting mods before heads and cam.

magnaflows sound great. or get a baffled muffler. GMMG ? i think thats it but i could be wrong. they both sound great. gotta get headers tho. LPP long tubes are the best bang for the buck

https://ls1tech.com/forums/removed-locked-thread-graveyard/862878-lpp-polished-stainless-lt1-headers-y.html

do you need to pass emissions / sniffer tests ?

Yeah emissions are a problem here. Are borla exhaust worth the price?

hmm i went with Mac Mid length headers. there full emissions legal and it keeps the cat in the stock location which is good for you. borla's sound nice but if i were to do a new exahust id probably go with GMMG

I'd say:

1. Skip Shift (any cheap one will do - about $20)
2. CAI (about $150 used)
3. Shocks (Koni or KYB $350)
4. Aluminum Driveshaft ($100 used)
5. Exhaust (Catback) ($350 if you go catback, $100 if you just go muffler)

Obviously this would be after the mandatory tune up and fluid change. Then drive the car awhile to make sure you don't have any issues that will suck you dry. The above mods are easy to do in your driveway and will make the car more enjoyable to drive.
