Just a comment on the prybar technique... you did know that there are pads to pry on cast into various places on the intake perimeter, right? They are the quickest and easiest way to go. Especially if you are working with some thin or compressed gaskets that don't allow space to easily get a pry bar between the manifold and cylinder head. I used to do it your way too, until I realized what those cast in pads were meant for.

Didn't realize that. I'll check out my manifold and see where you're talking about.

I usually break the intake seal by sticking a long prybar all the way into one of the front intake hole and just lift up.

On the driver's side there is on by the PCV valve, one between the two rear bolts, and one built into the thread bosses between the front bolts.

On the passenger side there is one between the two front bolts and one between the two rear bolts.

I usually pry on the one by the PCV valve gently and the intake pops right off.

Didn't realize that. I'll check out my manifold and see where you're talking about.
Don't feel bad, I was working on them for almost two years before I realized. It's just nice to use them because it provides more leverage, so you use less force and have less risk of damaging any gasket surface.

Not really afraid of damaging gasket surfaces especially since the pry point I use is on the extreme outside of the manifold and cylinder head which is why I chose that spot. In the years I've taken that same manifold off the car so many times they surfaces are still smooth.

Same here but there are a lot of inexperienced people doing this for the first time and they will one time or another use it like a chisel into the cylinder head

Funny story about the allen socket...has anyone ever said you sound like Dan Akroyd(sp)?

Good vid, some good info! Like the 'knife in cold butter approach' with the feeler gauge.

Nice job, good to see some videos that will help out the LTX crowd. I had no idea on those tabs either and I've had that manifold off enough times I should have known.

Thanks all. Of course there was a lot more I wanted to say regarding the detail, but just didn't think about it at the time. Just so everyone knows lash on a solid roller can vary. The cam card for the cam I am running calls for .017 cold.
Oh.. and if you use a remote start, make sure to engage the e-brake and put the tranny in neutral.

And lol.. no one has every said I sound like Akroyd. I'll work on some impressions for the next video.
