Default rotating clunking noise - driveshaft or clutch?

it's an LT1 M6, every gear and every speed there is a rotating wap wap wap that increases. Today after opening up in 1st, it's turned into a louder whump whump whump. At speed, putting in neutral, let out the clutch and rev, the noise is gone. In gear it's there at every speed. clutch feels and operates fine.

i checked the u-joints and there is almost no play. tightened all 4 bolts but they were good.

The sound has reached undriveable levels today and i won't drive it. it sounds like it could be from the back of the trans or driveshaft. i have the LT4 SLP clutch and SLP steel/alum flywheel no prob last 35K miles. does anyone know what it might be? thanks
