Default How much HP or torque will a M6 handle.

I found this on paceperformance.com. It appears to be the stock replacement. http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=75108

It states the torque capacity 450 ft. lbs. Is this true? What would I have to change for it to handle 500hp/500 ft. lbs. The future for my car was going to have a mild cam and heads with about 8 psi s/c which would put me around that power range. I thought the M6 could handle that. (the rest of the stock drivetrain definitely won't )

Tremec rates the T56 at 450 lbs of torque .......... the unit will hold much more than that . I personally start seeing things physically breaking around 600-650 flywheel horsepower . Will they break with less ? Sure . Can they hold more ? Yes .

Good to hear. One less thing to change in the future.

that is pretty overpriced. I bet one of our Sponsors can hook you up with one that has upgraded parts for cheaper.

a stock one from anyone in the parts section will work fine for ya, theres a lot of people out there with stock 6speeds holding a lot of power without problems, if you wanted new i know summit sells them for 2500 i believe, but even still thats pricey compared to getting a used one.

Our Level One Rebuild is an exact stock replacement, it is rated at 450ft/lbs or torque.

Our Level Two Upgrade is a beefier version of the stock T56, increasing it's capacity to 700ft/lbs of torque.

Not to start a pissing match with you , but what exactly are you changing to increase the torque rating from 450 to 700 ?

If you click the link, you'll see the parts included in our Level Two build. None of these parts increase torque capacity directly, but with these upgrades, 700ft/lbs or torque is the number that we feel comfortable offering our one year warranty up to.

Our Level One package isn't warranted regardless of power level.

And basically that warranty only cover bench labor ? No parts , R&R or shipping ?

Our warranty is detailed on our website, as well. It is as good or better than the industry standard amongst T56 builders that are still in business.

The most typical problems with the T56 are the 3-4 gear shifting issues . This has very little to do with the actual horsepower level and more to do with the type of driver . I have seen guys tear up built units in a matter of weeks and I have seen stock units last 150K + miles .

Yeah, I am at 107k miles and it shifts great, but it has a ton of highway miles for an 02.

If you don't hammer on it and keep fluid in it , they go a lot longer than that . Once you start screwing with the clutch and beating on it , things go south in a hurry . The issues are not power related , they are shift related . If GM were to have done the upgrades from the factory and had a clutch system that worked better , I doubt you'd see a 1/3 of the rebuilds you see right now .
