Default cutting B&M ripper

has anyone ever cut their b&m ripper shifter to make it shorter? Its supposed to be a short throw right? so why is it not much shorter than stock? my thought is to cut it to the desired length and then re-threading it... any thoughts on this?

Yes...a good machinist will have no problems cutting one down (I have one that is cut 2" shorter). I didn't like the end result to tell you the truth.

It is a short throw shifter...it takes less travel than stock to get into each gear. Short throw does not mean it has to be physically short height wise, although most on this board tend to equate the two things, and for some reason enjoy shifting down in a hole.

It is certainly possible, but not recommended. A longer stick gives you more leverage to pull the transmission into gear, especially when shifting quickly. If you shorten the stick, the trans will feel more resistant to go into gear.

What Joey stated is EXACTLY what I found to be true with my shortened B&M, and why I kinda chuckle to myself when people are looking for the absolute shortest stick they can find for the Pro 5.0/whatever shifter.

If you want a truly short throw shifter, look at MGW. It is what I run now instead of the B&M. It is just about as tall as the Ripper, but the pivot point is such that it takes little movement to get it into each gear, but it is a little harder to get it into each gear.

You don't get something for nothing in this world.

I took a shortened B&M Riper out of my car and replaced it with a full length Ripper. Whoever had the car before me cut the threads off, painted the stick black and jammed a Wal-Mart **** on it. It doesn't have any threads to screw a handle on to. It's about 1.25" shorter than original. I need to get rid of it to offset some of the cost of my new shifter. Anyone interested??

i shortened mine about 2"s and it works fine. I just thought it was too tall of a shifter. Since i was used to using a hurst shifter and a LSS

I made my own stick at work and installed a Hurst pistol grip shifter handle. I love it.
