T56 Rebuild Help!!
So I finished up my T56 last night, the only problem was that it was engaged in 6th when i put it all together.(not realizing this until the main case was on)
Now... when i went to test it to see if I could shift through the gears it wont come out of 6th.
So did i not set up the rail linkage right ( It looked just like in the pics online) or what did I do..?
T56 guys please chime in...

1) when you slid the case on, was your shift pattern piece(with the spring ball) in 6th gear as well? if it wasn't, this may be what's keeping you from moving to other gears.
2) as long as you have the shift pattern alignment piece on the right hole in the shift rail, AND were able to get your shift rail alignment bolts in correctly(T40) you shouldn't have this problem.....because there's really only one way that it can go....(logically)
i suspect that your shift pattern piece is aligned wrong due to the pin being driven through the wrong hole. There is a second pin hole above the correct one that you may have used, being that the shift rail would be lower(when in 6th)

the slots in the reverse/5-6 shift rail should be even in height with the other fork plates' slots....so that the pin of the shift rail can rotate through all slots freely(this is neutral)

I am sure that I have the detent assembly on the right roll pin, I used the lower of the two holes.
When you say the slots should be all even I think this is where I may have messed up.
The pin on the shift rail rotates through the slots.. Is this a pin, or a rounded piece that I could have mistakenly attached the furthest to the right of the 5/6 slot onto.
Because I remember the only way I could make the slots of 5/6 even is to use round part in the slot of that thing.
Thanks alot for any input

not sure i follow what you did....BUT
when you put the 5/6 and Reverse shift rail on, it tries to sink all the way into the hole and you have to hold it up, while rotating the fork selector pin(1-4 shift rail) towards 1/2 shift fork.
once the pin is b/w the 1/2 gears, align the slots on the 5/6 and R shift rail together and rotate the 5/6/R shift rail shaft so that the slots sit on the center lip of the shift selector piece that slides around the pin.
it sounds like your 5/6th rail is below your 'shift selector slider piece'....when you try to pull it out of 6th(moving shaft up) it hits the slider....

Thanks alot for the advice. This is my first tranny build. I think you may be right about the shift selector piece being about the rail. Im going to look into it in about an hour Ill let you know what I come with.

Yeah, the first time is a bitch. All of us who have rebuilt one have been there (especially by ourselves). It'll take a few tries, but stick with it, you'll get it.
Took me I think 5 tries before mine went together properly the first time?

Ceissus-
Turns out your right about the 5/6 slots not being on the center lip of the selector pin. Changed it and now it shifts the gears perfectly. Thank you! Its finally done!! ha

Glad to hear you were able to figure everything out. Congrats on doing it yourself. Thats a pretty tough job you did on your own. I thought I did something when I changed out my shifter to the Hurst short throw from factory.
