Default Tick performance question

I did a search but it doesn't seem to be working right. I'm sure this question has been asked a million times.

I'm currently making about 600 fwhp, and should be up around 750 soon. Currently running a th350 and its boring as hell on the street. I would like to pick up a used t56 and am looking at the level 2 kit.

How will it hold up dumping the clutch at say 5000 rpms? Car weighs 3400 with me in it.

Can I use a grabby clutch, or should I get one that will slip a little?

I know these questions have been asked, but i can't find them. I apologize.

A boring stalled auto with that kind of power? You don't need a T56. Just a good converter. I loved my 408, 4L80e on the street. Eat a burger, rub my old lady, talk on my phone, and outrun Cobras... all at the same time.

Yea, its just not as fun as a stick would be. First gear just blows the tires off, and I can't hit the gas hard in third or I'm just going too damn fast. So its basically like a one speed. It has an 8" ATI 3500 stall.

I like to get jerked into the seat. The power delivery is just too smooth. It's great at the track though when it hooks.

If you can get it to hook with the auto, you damn sure won't hook with a stick. Not to mention you will run probably .5-.7 quicker with the auto and not break as much ****......if I were you, I would leave it alone. Sticks may be better for roll on racing but suck at the strip...

I think you will be very dissappointed if you convert to a stick......they may be more fun to drive but when you start measuring their performance(ie. drag strip, launches, street launches/races), the autos w/good converters can't be beat. Remember stick cars kill clutches and tranny parts.....not to mention they are harder on the rest of the driveline..

I have often thought about converting to A4.....

5000 rpm launches with that power and weight should be fine. As for the clutch, one that slips a bit will probably yeild better 60ft times and be easier on the rest of the drivetrain. It would probably be hard to find a typical street style clutch that would have just the right amount of slip at that power level however...Something like a Spec 3+ is probably what I'd use.

I was only using a 275/60 et street radial. I know they're rougher on parts and my engine builder is the guy that talked me into running an auto. I have a heavy duty driveshaft with 1350 yokes, and a 9" rear with a spool. Still stock third member though, so I would upgrade that.

I don't bang gears much and I don't think I would powershift it either. I know my et will be slower at the track, but I don't plan on switching until next winter. So hopefully this summer I will dip into the 9's, then if I can't get there with the stick, no big deal. Times mean very little to me, I dont care about consistency, I just want to FEEL THE POWER!

Really sucks though to have 2500 bucks into this auto and then probably sell it for half that.

Need a better converter for sure. And you know your drive shaft probably won't work, right?

Whats wrong with my 3500 ATI 8"? It flashes nice and high but only slips about 5% going down the track. My motor is a 383 with 200cc heads, 236/242 duration with 8 psi, so peak hp is only around 6200 or so. Midrange tq is stellar.

I'm really hoping my driveshaft works. My th350 was built to be the same length as a 4l60, with a longer output shaft. T56 is the same length right? 26 spline.

What would I want for it? I dunno, paid 1400 for it, 800 for the converter. I use a megashifter which I hate. Too stiff.

I feel like I'm riding in a really fast horizontal elevator. If that makes any sense. I want a harsh kick in the *** and my hands need more to do.

What times have you run Ryan?
