Default TR-3160 swap behind an LS1 2000 Z28?

All,

i have an A4 2000 Z28 and I have a possibility of picking up a TREMEC TR-3160 6 speed out of a 2017 Camaro (V6 car) very cheap.

Question is, does anyone know if this trans will 1) bolt up to the stock LS1 in my car and 2) will it bolt into the 2000 Z28 in general? If so, does anyone know what/if any mods are needed to do so?

Thanks!

Post pictures...does it have an integral bellhousing? I am pretty sure that the V6 bellhousing bolt pattern is different than the LS bolt pattern.

Andrew - Good question. I'd have to find a picture online because the picture of the vehicle it is in is only from the inside. The trans would have to be taken out. I'll see if I can find a picture of one to post up. I don't know what the bolt pattern of the rear of the LS1 engine looks like since I haven't had one out of a car yet, so others would be able to tell me that.

Also, as you mentioned, I don't know if the bellhousing can be removed or not (as to replace it with an LS1 bellhousing if need be).

Here is a PDF (shows a small picture) from the Tremec website on it. It looks like the bellhousing bolts onto the back of the trans

Tremec TR-3160 PDF

Problem is, they use this trans for Fords and Chevys, so I'm not sure if the picture on the PDF is relevant or not.

This link shows a picture of it. I can't really tell if the bellhousing can be removed or not. Uggghhh..

Bolt pattern is definitely different. Honestly, this is more trouble than it is worth, in my opinion. There are multiple issues going on here: bellhousing, input shaft, slave, and the least of which is the fixed output flange.

Is this for a swap into an older vehicle?

Not that they will probably respond, but I actually just emailed Tremec from their website asking if the TR-3160 has a removable bellhousing and/or if it can be put behind an LS1. So, maybe I'll get lucky and someone will respond to me. LOL

Well, per Dale at Tremec, the TR-3160 and the TR-6060 are not interchangeable and the TR-3160 will not bolt up to the LS1 V8 block. So, that's that. But at least now we all know straight from the people that designed the trans. It was worth a thought.

It was in Kentucky, but it's gone now. The person was parting out a smashed 2017 Camaro 6 cyl car. They only wanted $500 for the trans. That's why I was considering it. Every other friggin' T-56 I see for the LS1 is $1800-$2000 around Kentucky (if you can even find one) and I would still have to rebuild it to handle the power. :-/ I then considered an LT1 version, but then everyone says it isn't worth the money to replace the entire front shaft and such to match up to the LS1, so I dumped that idea too. That's why I'm just staying with my 4L60E trans, even though I realllllllllly want a stick instead. But I can't afford to sell my car and buy one with a stick instead.
