another good way to put the pilot bearing is to cut off old imput shaft about 5 to 6 inches long and use that to hammer it in works well

Ok so i didnt realize to install flush until too late. Got the bearing in the crank about 1/8-3/16" past flush. Will this be ok or need to re-do?

edit for pics:

HMMMM i am going to install a Pilot bearing or bushing on my 99 Ls1... Which is better a bronze bushing or a roller bearing? I read the bronze pilot bearing is better but all i could find around here is the roller bearing... Bronze is special order! Which one would you guys go with? I know i thread hijacked but it is related to the original post...

Personally? I can't imagine running a bronze bearing *if* a roller bearing is available that fits. Then there's (allegedly) the issue of the shaft's hardness... But the guys at Jerico know nothing of this and always recommend a roller bearing!

If it was me, I'd run it. But then, I'm not in the parts business nor am I an expert. Just frugal. So, if it makes you feel better, change it out and you'll have that peace-of-mind.

If that were a bushing, I'ld go with it. Since its a bearing, I would not risk having the pilot partially ride on the needles....a sure way to cause premature wear on the bearing.

Hello,

I am installing a Ram pilot bearing into a 383 stroker Chevy crank by Callies. One end of the bearing seems closed around the edges(I assume to keep grease from flinging out).... while the other end you can see the bearing's edge. I am not sure which end faces the transmission, and which end faces the crank. If you know, I would appreciate the help! Thank you for your time!
