R154 on 98 LS1? Crazy? Doable?
I really have no chance in getting a T-56, neither will I ever think of rebuilding a 4l60e, nor put a 4l80e! so what I'm asking is going out for the Transmission specialists, is this doable? my mechanic said if I can bring the Bell Housing, Clutch, and Flywheel of the T-56 it can be done... is this possibe?
Don't be concerned with the price of the R154, its 200$ here in Lebanon (Middle East)
I just need Mechanical answers please (Thanks to All in advance)

Aren't you the guy from the middle east? If so, didn't you already ask a similiar question about some other transmission?
By the time you built the correct adapters and bought the transmission, you could source out a used T56. The Toyota units do have a removable bellhousing but the input shaft will be a different lenght, use a different clutch spline and diameter as well as a different pilot tip. They also use a throw bearing that rides on a retainer with an external slave cylinder.

yes I am the same guy... and forget the idea of a T56, cause an R154 costs 200$ here, a T56 costs 1200 dollars for everything without shipping to the Middle East... I can manage paying small payments each month, for example once for the transmission and then again for the bell housing, or adapter, then clutch... but with the T56 I will have to pay all that and then pay for shipping, cause in Saudi Arabia the damn T56 is for $2700 (minimum) Im not going to pay that much for it... nor am I going to ship, the minimum shipment cost will raise the cost till 2000$ I can manage to fit the R154 for much less, with the same reliability if not more, plus better shifting... Don't u think? I heard this being done in Australia...

Like I had said before, anything is possible with enough effort and money. Keep in mind the speedometer will not work even if you pulled it off but here is a list of things you would need :
adapter plate to bolt the Supra unit to the LS1 bellhousing
adapter front plate to bolt up the internal slave cylinder
special clutch disc made with a Supra splined hub but GM diameter disc
special pilot bearing made providing the input shaft is even long enough to reach the crankshaft
custom crossmember
driveshaft yoke from Supra
shorten or possibly lengthen the driveshaft to fit the unit

Well, I am ALL for neat projects and making things fit that aren't supposed to, and things like that, but in this case, I agree with thesource (seems like I am always doing that these days!!!)
GL with your project, let us know how it turns out.

actually, I found a site that claims you can put the 154 tranny behind everything from a northstar to a new hemi to a small block dodge all amc and jeep engines, 2.2 turbo dodge 4cyl, jeep liberty diesel, etc. using all factory parts with no expensive adapters. Never done it myself, but it sounds pretty good.

I think that's what I've writtendown. If that doesn't work, search Mopar Chat at grassrootsmotorsports.com for it. Good Luck!

by the way, I was talking to my mechanic, and he asked for the following to do the conversion...
t56 ls1 bellhousing
Fork (t56)
Flywheel (t56)
Clutch r154
what else could I need and is there anything that could make my life easier?
(note: even though I don't go fourth with this im sure someone else will benefit...
