Default C6 Corvette 6speed into 97 TransAm?

Does anyone know if a 6 speed out of a C6 Corvette can be used in a 97 TransAm 6 speed car? If so what other parts are needed to make it work?
Thanks for any responses.

No. Vette's use Transaxle versions of the T56, they won't mount directly behind a motor without major mods. The internals can be mounted on a GTO mainshaft and installed into an LS1 Fbody T56, but the C5/C6 units are not direct swaps.

About the only thing they are worth to an F-body is the extra parts. If you have a MN12 or GTO T56 then you can get some different Gear Ratios out of them.

If you can pick it up cheap, it might be worth spending the money to convert it.

In re-reading the OP, I see that he mentioned a 97 Fbody, which would be a LT1 car. So even if the C5/C6 -> Fbody T56 conversion was done, in this case it still wouldn't help..

You might be able to machine the input shaft down to fit the LT1. I've never done it or even compared the two inputs side by side.

LT1, LS1, C5 (double-cone)

Machining the LS1/C5 input down to LT1 dimensions would lose 60% of the clutch splines and would be almost impossible to make work.. The CTSv input comes closest to doing this, but even then you lose 20% of the splines.
