Default Ram clutch carnage

So I blew up my Ram clutch last friday on the highway....I was racing my buddies mustang and all was good until the 4th-5th shift....It just sounded like a missed shift but it was in gear all right. I was actually surprised that it didn't do any damage to the bellhousing or input shaft. The clutch was a Ram powergrip hd but I swapped out the disc for a organic 300 series disc because the iron/organic disc was alittle agressive for the street use for me. Im thinking I am going with a twin disc setup considering I destroyed the flywheel as well any suggestions for a streetable twin disc? Here are some pics

Hey Rocco told me about the carnage just before, can't believe it let go like that - though I think you're nuts for powershifting 5th anyway! Hadn't heard many bad things about Ram's over the years, and never seen a clutch go like that on here before.

If you're going to stay in the power range you're at and plan to still drive it on the street I don't think you absolutely need a twin disk, a good single should be fine. Twin might be a bit of a bear on the street, and you'll need an adjustable master. I had real good luck with the Textralia OZ until I started to spray, and as you saw it slips 4th sometimes on the bottle. Never been a problem on the motor though and its got excellent street manners. I think the Exo-skel is rated for more torque than the OZ. Had a Spec 3 once and welded it to the flywheel after less than 20 passes, so I gave up on them.

Hearing good things about the monster clutch so far too, kind of early though.

If you find something good let me know! I'll probably change mine out this winter, tired of getting shortchanged a good pass from slippage.

thanks for the input man.....anyone else recommend a streetable twin disc? or just go with a nice single? Anyone with feedback on their new monster clutch? the car is mostly driven on the street so minimal chatter is perfered but I also want it to hold those 5k rpm dumps on slicks at the track

Nice, I thought I did pretty good when I shattered the lining off of both sides of my disc, but you straight gutted the hub. Nice work!

Haven't heard anything good on the Tex OZ 700 until this thread. The GTO people are not happy with them. I have heard the Zoom D2 is a great clutch, but as others have mentioned your power levels you only need a single disc.

How is the OZ700 as far as street manners (chatter/engagement)...I've driven cars with a "puck" style clutch and the chatter is annoying as **** especially with a cammed car you have to slip it out a bit more which makes the chatter even more noticeable.

I now know two friends in the last 1 and a half years that had that exact clutch. Those two friends have also had clutch failures. I'll never buy their product. Sorry to hear.

Mine rarely chatters, very slippable street clutch. When I had the Spec 3, it was basically an on/off switch. The Textralia, not so much.

If you want to test it out before you buy, stop by some time and you can drive the car.

If you are looking for a streetable twin disc then I suggest our Super-Twin. The LS1 kits include the clutch assembly, flywheel, bearings and alignment tool. We offer 4 different stages that cater to different power needs (from 900lb.-ft to nearly 1800lb.-ft). Each of these are quite streetable too, which makes them ideal for high-power daily driven applications that still see track use and general abuse. Let me know if you have any questions about the available kits and I will be happy to assist you.
