Default Shorter short throw how to...

Well I just got a new Hurst Ball shifter in the mail and it looked great.
Then I put it on and it looked too high. That caused a little differance in throw length too.

So I made the adjustment and took pics. Then thought maybe others had the same issue and wanted to see how to do it.

So here you GO...

TOOLS NEEDED:
-16MMX1.50 PITCH DIE.(YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO LOOK HARD FOR THIS ONE TOOL, MATCO AND Snap-On HAVE IT)
-ADJUSTABLE WRENTCH BIG ENOUGH FOR THE DIE
-GOOD VISE
-HACK SAW
-A CAN OF BRAKE CLEAN AND WD-40

THIS IS THE OEM SET UP.


THIS WAS WITH THE NEW SHIFTER BALL.


SO FISRT I REMOVED THE *** AND BOOT. THE BOOT COMES OUT BY PUSHING ONE SIDE INWARDS AT THE BASE TO RELEASE THE CLIPS.
DO NOT PUSH TOO HARD OR THE INNER PLASTIC FRAME CAN BREAK...
I KNOW THIS CAUSE I BROKE MINE. HA HA


THEN UNDO THE 2 BOLTS OFF THE SHIFTER LEVER. AND PULL IT OUT.



NOW PUT IT IN A VISE AND GET THE TOOLS AS MENTIONED BEFORE.
-16MMX1.50 PITCH DIE.(YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO LOOK HARD FOR THIS ONE)
-ADJUSTABLE WRENTCH BIG ENOUGH FOR THE DIE
-GOOD VISE
-HACK SAW
-CAN OF BRAKE CLEAN AND WD-40



THREAD ON THE DIE SLOWLY BY HAND WITH THE COORECT SIDE DOWN
(THE DIE DOES HAVE A FRONT AND BACK)
SLOWLY WORK IT DOWN BY HAND UNTIL YOU CANN'T ANYMORE. SPRAY IT DOWN WITH WD-40
THEN PUT ON THE WRENCH. TAKE IT DOWN UNTIL THERE ARE NO MORE THREADS AND GO DOWN A HALF TURN AND THEN BACK UP.
KEEP REPEATING THIS PROCCESS STOPPING EVERY FEW COMPLETE TURNS TO CLEAN OFF THE SHAVINGS WITH BRAKE CLEAN AND ADDING WD-40.

I TAKE IT COMPLETELY OFF TO CLEAN OUT THE DIE.


THIS IS WHAT A STOCK ONE LOOKS LIKE


THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AFTER THE NEW THREADS ARE ON.

DONT GO TOO FAR DOWN CAUSE THE SHAFT THINS OUT AND YOU WILL LOOSE A PLACE FOR THE THREADS TO STOP.


NOW YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE A LOT MORE THREADS THAN YOU NEED. SO TAKE THE HACK SAW AND CUT OFF ENOUGH THAT YOU ONLY HAVE A 1/2" OF THREAD STILL. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE WD-40 AGAIN.



NOW YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.


CLEAN EVERYTHING OFF AND REINSTALL IT INTO THE CAR. YOU CAN USE A COUPLE OF ZIP-TIES AS A STOP ON THE SHAFT TO HOLD THE BOOT UP WHERE YOU WANT IT.

AND THIS IS WHAT YOU GET...



NOW MY ONLY INTENT WAS TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER, BUT I ALSO CHANGED HOW THE SHIFTER FEELS. IT'S NOTICABLY LESS AND A LITTLE NICER.

SO THERE YOU GO. A HOW SHORTEN A SHORT THROW SHIFTER.LOL

I KNOW THIS IS A EASY THING TO DO AND I JUST DID IT TO PRACTICE WRITING HOW TOs.

I'LL WRITE UP OTHER ONES AS **** BREAKS ON MY CAR. LOL

...I DO HAVE TO REPLACE THE 3RD-4TH SHIFT FORK. UMMMMMMMMMMMM...
