Default T-56 rebuild 5/6 gear

Reading the rebuild posts, it states that the 5/6 gear needs to be removed with a puller. I've got my trans apart and the 5/6 gear came off the main shaft with very little effort. Seems like it just slid right off. Is this grounds for concern? The splines on the main shaft and 5/6 gear appear fine.

No concern, no. Most times they do just that.

Make sure that it doesn't have excessive wear.. it can strip off the Main Shaft easily.

How would you determine "excessive" wear?

Does it wiggle? Or when you slide it down, is it a SNUG fit? If so, no worries.

The "fit" of that spool gear is 50% spline and 50% interference with the journal. If is not a snug fit, it will eat up the spline over time. You may get lucky and improve this with just a gear change but it may take a new shaft as well.
