Default hard reverse?

just a strange problem. backing the car out of the grage today just move it out to the street to wash it and reverse was VERY hard to get into. it would go in but it almost seemed mis-aligned or something. im no transmission expert but im pretty sure its not my clutch. i assume its still the stocker, but its not giving up or hard to go into any other gear; they are all silky smooth. reverse just doesnt wanna go in easy. not impossible by any means to get into gear, and it ill go every time, i just have to use more force.

any help or insight here?

Was it hard to push the shifter all the way over? Your reverse lockout solenoid could have went bad or maybe just a blown fuse for the reverse lockout. Theres a fuse in one of the under hood fuse boxes labeled eng ses that controls the power supply to the reverse lockout.

yes, going beyond 5th/6th was kinda tough, but it would go. i didnt have to beat the crap out of it or anything to get it in R, just a little mroe force. ill check that fuse.

btw, thanks for the quick reply

That's the exact symptom I'm having! I'll check that out tomorrow. Thanks Jonathan, just the info I was looking for!

i'm having the exact same problem...started 2 days ago...if i engage the clucth and just slide the shifter towards the revers gear it won't go any further past the 5/6 smoothly and effortlessly like it used to...i've had to use both hands to push it into reverse and it seems too have pressure push back on it...all other gears work fine...i'll check out the fuse as well but if its fine anybody have a link as to how to access the reverse lockout selenoid and how to go about replacing it?

is it common for the rev lockout to go bad? my fuse is good and i checked the wiring and made sure it was plugged in good. is there any way to test it? I'm tired of the two handed reverse shift. this is on my 99 hawk btw.

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. It turned out to be a stupid blown fuse.....

Take it off the Tranny and jump it to the Battery with some wire and see if the Solenoid works.
