Default Tick master cylinder in action!!!! (vid)

If you don't have one of these yet, get one. I had a new GM master that I made adjustable. I had it adjusted so the engagement point was as high as possible without the clutch slipping. It did ok and I could powershift it pretty good, but the clutch was still dragging above 6500rpm and the car would creep forward enough to put out the top bulb on the tree. Put the Tick master in and it's like a totally different car. To say the pedal got a "little" stiffer is a gross understatement (think grain-truck), but this thing ROCKS. I picked up 2 tenths changing nothing but the master cylinder.

lol, heavy. Like flexing the firewall with the pedal pushed down kinda heavy.....but that's how I like 'em.

So if the Tick moves more fluid, why would the pedal effort go up?

The slave cylinder area is the same...the hyd lines dont matter...the pedal ratio is the same....the only think that could be different is the size of the piston in the master cylinder. And if the volume is larger, I would expect that the internals of the master are larger than stock which would bring the ratio of master cylinder piston area closer to the area that fluid works on in the slave cylinder...decreasing the effort needed to acticate the slave. I dont get it.

if the bore increases in size, then you are pushing more volume of fluid into the same size line that goes into the slave, pedal effort will increase. The slave connection didn't increase in size.

I'm running a tick with a monster 3.5... grain truck doesn't describe it. It's really hard to push in, but in a good way. You know you are getting full release.

The Tick master has a much larger bore than stock. Larger bore = higher pedal effort

EDIT: SladeX beat me to it.

Spec clutches are probably the stiffest to begin with when comparing them to the monsters, tex, etc. I have also noticed how stiff the spec becomes with our cylinder on a few installs. Its probably not the setup your granny would want, but it sure does work good.

As for the effort increasing, look at it this way. You're moving more volume of fluid for the same amount of pedal travel with a larger bore. You have changed the ratio of the pedal basically.

Sorry, I just prved it to myself...duuh..

The larger bore will require more force to actuate the slave. Let's say the stock master bore is .5" diameter and you put 50# of force on it, that translates to 127 psi on that cylinder. If the Tick is .75" and 50# is pressed on it, that translates to 57 psi.

Had to dust off the old brain.

Anyone know how the Tick feels with an LS7 clutch?

How much does one cost? I need to do something about my clutch, and QUICK! It's not releasing very well at all! I'm still on the stock master and stock pressure plate. Still haven't done the drill mod yet either I know, I know.. I need to do the drill mod, but I'm still not at all happy with this pedal feel. It feels like my 4y/o niece could drive my car just fine if she wanted to. I need something thats worthy of the ~900 or more HP that will be sitting there on tap at the flywheel!

*edit* just found it.. $340! I guess if it solves ALL this crap stock hydraulic issues and eliminates the need to do the drill mod, it should be worth it.. Anyone running this master with 800ish rwhp??

I'm around 700rwhp on the jug. You'll love this master cylinder, it's expensive but worth it IMO.

The LS7 clutch felt like stock to me, maybe a bit stiffer, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference between that and the LS1 clutch. Recently put in the tick master, after the break in period, it was slightly stiffer still than stock. If I were to compare, the LS7 + tick master is the difference between effortless and a little less effortless.

The tick master really does change how the shifter feels. I thought I could shift fast before, but my shifting got faster with the tick. Videos like this make you think only seasoned manual racers can shift that fast and effortless, but it gets easier. Just make a note that your left leg will get one hell of a workout though.
