T56- Noise in 5th & 6th gear...
after a long cruise I picked up a whining that took me a while to find its source. I realized it was coming from my trans and when I accelerated it would tick, almost knock intermittently. Once I coasted again it became a squealing/whining again. If a shift to any gear other than 5th or 6th the sound would go away for a while. Im using Pennzoil Syncromesh fluid. Any thoughts?

1st of all, are you SUUUUREEE it is the tranny? Not the rear end? Ujoints?
Synchromesh is a "thicker" fluid than what is called for, so should actually help "quiet" it down some. Now, over long term use, I don't know. I know that alot of people use teh Synchromesh with success, but do not remember any type of updates/results over long term use with it. So, that might have caused a problem, sure. Do I know that for 100%? Nope, just guessing.
How long HAVE you had teh synchromesh in? when was the last time you serviced it?
Check the fluid level, maybe low??
could be the 5/6 cluster like 85mike said.

The trans itself has approx 75k on it. I serviced it 2 weeks ago after a driveshaft seal replacement. I only have been running the syncromesh since early August. It was a 4L60 - T56 swap so I dont know what was in it before that.
