Default trouble installing t 56

I started mt t56 swap about a week ago and i am having trouble getting the belhousing to go up to the block. My intut shaft is about in inch too low from slipping into the clutch. I cant get it to go up. The top of the belhousing keeps hitting the floor of the car. I dont kow what to do any suggestions. can i jack the front of my motor up somewhere to lower the back a little bit? If so where? Please help.

Well if I was you I would take the belhousing off the trans and put that on the car first. Then once the belhousing is on then put the trans. on the belhousing.

Ditto on that. I just completed the A4 to T56 conversion and the bellhousing goes on first.

I won't tell you anything that has not already been said here.

UNbolt the bell from tranny, and bolt it on engine by itself first. THEN bolt tranny to bell....MUCH easier that way.

In fact, not even sure you can do it the other way?????

Thanks guy the advise really worked but now im having a problem getting the dowel pins on the trans to go into their holes on the bellhousing. I have jiggled and wiggled it alot but they wont go in. i now have the three bottom bolts in about half way and the pins still wont line up exactly I have been told this is a pretty hard part is it supposed to be this bad or am I just doing something wrong again.

You should not have ANY problems here. The bell will slip right over teh dowels....Make sure nothing else is in the way...look for a wire, or bolt or something that is interfering with it...

check the vent house and passenger side wiring harness.

Make sure the trans is level (or really darn close) since all the weight is in the back.

Also the slave/master lines on the drivers side need to route through the indentions in the bellhousing..

I will be putting mine back in tomorrow morning and already had them in the way while the tranny is 3-4 inches out.

Time for some relaxation for today. Tomorrow I will work some more.

Default Lining Up

If you have the bottom 3 bolts in halfway the dowels should line up, I dont know the full story but it sounds like your input shaft is not lining up with your pilot shaft bearing, Which in turn means your clutch disc is not properly centered? If you use one of the cheap plastic alignment tools sometimes they sag when you tighten up the pressure plate causing the clutch disc to be off-center. Good Luck!

Loosen up the 3 bottom Bolts..lift up on the back of the Trany and put in one of the top Bolts..then it'll line up easier.

I havent really done anything else to it today Im going to work on it tomorrow because my neck is killing me from looking up and wiggling that friggin trans. I will let you guys know how it goes and If I have anymore problems. Thanks again for all of your help.

Default Transmission Install

I have used the plastic alignment tools in a pinch, I cant think of the company but they sell a metal pilot alignment tool and it fits very snug with no slop, you probably noticed there is a lot of movement of the clutch disc with that plastic tool, try loosening your pressure plate and re-centering the disc and I kind of tried to eye ball the pilot tool in the center and then tighten the pressure plate in the proper sequence and torque specifications. Another neat trick is to get 4 bolts that are 4-5 inch in length that are the same thread pitch as the bellhousing bolts and cut the heads off and slot the tops so you can turn them with a screwdriver and thread them into the four corners of the bellhousing and use them as guide pins when you are trying to stab the transmission in, and as the previous post said try and lift on the back of the transmission as you wiggle and jiggle it into place (make sure the transmission is in nuetral as well) if everything is lined up it should slide in with almost no extra force needed. If you are using excessive force or using the bellhousing bolts to draw it in, something is not lined up and you can damage either the pilot bearing or input shaft of the transmission. Hope this helps Good Luck.

If you happen to have a junk Input Shaft that will work the best.

be sure that the dowel pins arent buggered up and the holes in the trans are clean so they can go in a lil smoother. if need be, you could jack up the front of the motor a lil so it tilts back.

Advanced Auto sells alignment tools that look just like an imput shaft for like 3bucks. Worked on my twin clutch and it was impossible b4 that.
