Default Smaller, more compact T56 bellhousing?????

Hi guys.....I'm doing an LS1/T56 swap into a project car, and I really need a smaller T56 bellhousing. I thought I hit the jackpot when I found the McLeod bellhousing, but I spoke with a McLeod employee who informed me that the McLeod bellhousing is in fact LARGER than the stock bellhousing?!? Certainly looks smaller in diameter to me, but what do I know?

So my question is this: Does anyone know where I can find a more compact (circumference) bellhousing for my T56 trans?

Thanks in advance. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Not sure its going to happen. The bellhousing has to be large enough to house the clutch and flywheel. Are you having a clearance issue in the tunnel area of a hybrid swap??

Why yes...yes I am....lol. Good guess.

I just keep comparing pictures of the stock bellhousing and an aftermarket bellhousing (McLeod, Quicktime), and the aftermarkets look smaller in circumference....if only by an inch or two.

What do you think?

I can't really help you on the size issue but you might want to look at actual LS1/T56 bellhousings. Neither of the aftermarket housings in your post are for the application. Here are the ones you need...

Quicktime

Good luck,

Thanks for clearing that up Larry!

Soooo, looking at the correct McLeod bellhousing is playing with my emotions. It certainly looks a little smaller in circumference to me.

Someone please chime in and let me know whether or not this is true. I'm not really wanting to spend $400 just to see if it fits my application.

I've never compared the factory bellhousing to the Quicktime version but it might be slightly smaller in the area that contains the clutch assembly. The sledge hammer modification will not work on the car you plan on installing it into?

Haha......I'm trying to avoid damaging/modifying the car in any way. I may be forced to break out the BFH though.
