Default Do I have a Hurst?

I have a 2001 trans am firehawk. The guy i bought it from said that it didn't have a hurst shifter, he just put the "H" **** on there. But i read somewhere that all 2001 m6 cars came with a hurst shifter. If i don't have one, i want to go with the hurst pro billet. I don't want to buy one if i already have a factory hurst. Can someone please clear this up for me?

Pull the upper and lower shift boots out and look at the plate holding the shifter onto the trans. If it says Hurst on it then you're golden.

yeah only way to really tell is to look at the base.

stock shifter is thin stamped steel.
hurst is 1/8" or 3/16" plate steel

Not all M6 cars got the hurst shifter, it was an option

I pulled my ls1 and t 56 out of a 2002 trans am, I was going to order a hurst but my mechanic who was doing my engine swap into my c3 vette told me that there was a stock one on the 2002 ws6 which my setup did have the hurst.

I have seen some cars with hurst logos on the side of them from 2001 and 2002 not sure if that was a factory thing or a dealer thing.

damn i must be good lol... cuz i can tell by just shifting if its a short throw or not. maybe not a exact brand name but i can tell if its a short throw or not compared to a stock shifter.

If you've driven both, you can tell the difference easily. The Hurst is a little notchy and "snicks" into gear precisely. The standard one is really loose and vague - horrible, really. They both use the same shift lever, so they have the same throw.

Bottom line - if you like what you have, don't worry about it - whatever it is. If you don't like it, take a look, figure out what you've got and what would make for an improvement.
