Default testing VSS

is there a way to test the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)?

i did the t-56 swap into my 03 silverado

I plugged the connecter from the auto into my t-56 and it does not read my speed.

is it possible that it requires other wires to be hooked together to get power or ground?

is there a easy way to test the vss?

thanks,
Keith

Most likely its a variable reluctance. Its a two wire sensor that creates it own voltage.

Check resistance in the sensor.
check ac voltage output from the sensor

Are you hooked up to a scan too?

its a magnetic pulse generator, it outputs an AC voltage, u need a meter that has a frequency setting to test it.

If you see any AC voltage, the sensor is good. The faster you spin the outpur shaft, the higher the voltage.

do i have to get the trans spinning? or can i do it with the sensor out of the transmission?

F-body uses a PM (pulse megnetic) generator. When a reluctor wheel (on the main output shaft) rotates close to the sensor, the sensor generates AC voltage. Put your Fluke (multimeter) on AC scale, and check for ANY voltage while the reluctor wheel is spinning.

Another easier option would be to check for resistance on the sensor (use ohms scale).
