Default 4th gear problem.

Last month the 4th gear in my t56 just started grinding. Now its hard to get it in 4th unless im really powershifting. is this a common problem with the transmission? How long should the transmission last now that this is happening?
When tax season comes around the trans is going to be shipped to tick performance for a viper level 3 upgrade, will it last that long.
Is it safe to take it to the track like this? My new motor hasnt seen track yet, and i would like to see what it would do.

It sounds like you are having an issue with the 4th gear synchro/selector/fork etc...Of course without pulling the trans it hard to know which of these is the culprit. That being said the damage is already done and since you are planning to get it rebuilt anyway you can effectively do whatever you want with it. Of course...you have a damaged trans that you are trying to nurse through tax season. It may be a better idea to be easy on it...but at the end of the day it's your call.
