With the exception of the M28/M29 ratios in 1993, the LT1 and LS1 T56s use the exact same gear ratios. (MM6)

The only advantage is the later model LSX units had a revised 2nd gear with longer engaugement teeth. Other than that, Mike is 100% correct.

There's a "Gears and Axles" Forum that would be better suited to answer this.

Well mikey & sourcie are almost right. There is a significant difference in the headset mesh from LT to LS gearing. The headset is the 4th gear/ input mesh. The LS is wider and , as such , a stronger mesh. Since the headset drives the trans in all gears, the strength here is no small thing.

No idea what you're thinking of, but the LT - LS headset is exactly the same. Gear thickness, diameter, toe, heel, everything. The same Countershaft Cluster gear is used in all 1994-2002 Fbody T56s, so you'd be hard pressed to fit in a different mesh with the same countershaft.

The OP asked about gear ratios, and the MM6 ratio was unchanged from 1994-2002 Fbody T56 units.

Some of the LSx cars (not F-bodies, which I would assume that you are referring to) were available with the M12, which has different ratios. GTO's, CTS-V's, and Z06's were among those that got the better? ratios. 2.97 vs 2.66 1st gear. If I remember correctly, the M12 is 2.97, 2.07, 1.43, 1.00, .84?, and .60 or .62 for 6th.

Sorry, I was talking about the original 2.97 & 3.36 and the aftermarket 2.97 sets offered. The 2.66 sets( LT &LS) were the same face width.
