Default First Clutch Install

My clutch is bad on my 1999 Camaro, it's the stocker with 39k on the car.

I've bought the LS7 clutch kit, bought the Tick performance adjustable master cylinder and the Tick performance speed bleeder line since it's a no-brainer with a clutch swap.

But the last thing I want to make sure of is: would it be smart to buy a new slave cylinder (01-02 GM model) since I'm doing everything else and will have the tranny dropped for installing everything else?

There are no signs of my stock one going bad, but I've heard it's a must if you have the tranny removed in the first place (kind of like swapping oil pumps for a cam swap).

Part of me says "why not swap it since literally everything else is being swapped/upgraded?" and the other says "if it isn't broke, why fix it?

What's the educated answer, folks?

well i bought the car broke down and didnt know what all would be wrong with it so I only put in a Zoom clutch to get the car moving and to see if i liked it. Now I'm getting greedy and waiting for the stars to line up so I can get a Procharger and MWC 9". So i;m guessing i'll be replacing the clutch with a little better unit.

Ive talked to a few tuners and all of them recommended to replace the slave while doing clutch swaps. Since youre replacing pretty much everything else.. mind as well get this replaced for piece of mind and also the last thing you want is to get back in there and get one replace if it ends up going bad.*knock on wood*. thats why i replaced mine. Put a slave in, you have to take it out anyways, mine as well have all new parts. I am sure that your throwout bearing is worn, slave cyclinder comes with a new one. I just put a monster level 3, tick master and speed bleeder, its not that hard. Get a tranny jack, its well worth the money. I didnt have one, its a pain without one.

Slaves are only 60 bucks, attach your new bleeder to it.

Don't forget the pilot bushing either.

Pilot Bushing???

I ordered:

-LS7 clutch kit (clutch, ls2 flywheel, pressure plate, bolts)
-Tick performance speed bleeder
-Tick performance ajustable master cylinder
-Stock (01-02 year) entire salve cylinder assembly.

Is this everything I need for a complete upgrade? Pilot Bushing?

I hear the pilot bearing comes already with a new slave cylinder?

And a throwout bearing is separate I guess? Just get a stock one?

the throwout bearing should be included with the slave, some people like to go pilot bushing since many pilot bearings have failed in the past causing disaster by ruining the input shaft. i know the lq4 truck pilot bearing should be a heavy duty unit to replace the stock ls1 bearing or you can just go bushing its up to you

I didnt know there was a choice between a bushing and a bearing. I only heard of going pilot bearing. Is this something I should legitimately be worried about?

Also, are there any cons towards going "bushing"? I'd think everyone would be going bushing if there wasn't...?

you would have mixed answers, i actually dont know what i would get either when i decide to change out my clutch. the bushing should be made of bronze or some other type of soft metal and it should last a long time and it will not wear out the input shaft.

Eh I'd have no idea what to do when it comes to deciding between a bushing and bearing. I don't have the mechanical knowledge in this specific scenario to make a educated decision... Dammit I'm not sure what to do.

Can I just re-use the stock one? Does the stock one even have to be removed?
