Default shifter install: found something odd under shifter

When I took the shifter off of the trans, I found a round flat disc. Like a washer but with no hole in it, lying in the bottom of the opening to the transmission. It is about the size of the bottom of the shifter cup, black, and non-magnetic. Anybody have an idea what it is? I've done a few other shifters and never saw this before. It is on a 95 TA, not that that should matter. Thanks

Ryan

I have no idea what that may be. Maybe a few pictures would help us identify it?

Yeah, I couldn't figure it out. I think maybe it might have been a shim for the shifter ball. Possibly from a previous owners' handiwork. I tossed it and put the new shifter on. Thanks
