Default 2nd Gear Burnout

When you guys are at the track in the burnout box do you usually do a 2nd gear burnout? Do you start in first and then shift to second, or do you just start in second and dmp the clutch (this cant be good for the poor 10 bolt)

i dont do anything but a first gear burnout and feather the throttle back and forth to keep away from the redline. i used to shift to second but found out the clutch didnt like that. the last time my clutch started slipping immediately. that was the dual friction clutch, it looked worsed than my stock one when i replaced it

Dont do it in first gear, your tires will not get enough speed to get hot enough, Your burnout will not be that long and your rpms will be maxed. Pull up to the water box, then bump thru it pull out a little, Put the car in second, bring the revs up and dump the clutch burn out until you start to feel the car grab, then push the clutch back in, and stage. This can also be done in 3rd gear too.

As far as your poor 10 bolt,, If you are at the track on slicks on the 10 bolt you are taking chances anyways. I have personally seen stock cars break the ring gear in the axle. When you get serious your gonna need a 9" I got mine from Quick Time Performance. No problems with 6k Dumps,.

Do NOT shift into second gear...Stay in first.
You can slip "smoke" your clutch if you start in second.

Now if you are "careful" you can sit there burning the tires in first gear and if you stay in one place and not move forward to much you can grab second and continue but you risk sliping your clutch like I did once or twice..maybe it was three times....thus I'm installing a new clutch next week with 25,000 miles on my car!

Sliping the clutch under full throttle glazes it and it will never hold as good as new....I'm talking factory clutches here!

well obviously you shouldnt do that with a factory clutch. Im talking modded cars here though, aka my stage 4 zoom clutch.

from what I understand shifting into second while doing a burnout is a good way to waste your synchros as well

i always roll through the water box and spin the tires over a little bit, then line lock, second gear and dump the clutch. the SPEC 5 has lasted for close to 20,000 miles. which i considered really good considering how grabby it is.

If you use the Clutch the right way a 2nd Gear burnout can be done quite easily.

Line lock +6,000rpm +2nd gear +dump clutch. Do not ease the clutch pedal out. Just side step it.

I use to do a first gear burn out, then tried 2nd.... much better. I back into the water box and get the tires nice and wet, pull up a little, put it in 2nd, rev it nice and high, ease of the clutch a bit just enough to take up the drivetrain slack, and dump it and floor it at the same time, then immediatly put medium pressure on the brake pedal, does a nice job. this was with my monster 3 and m/t et street radials
