Default For those of you wondering why replace the 3-4 shift fork to steel

Under most conditions, the 3-4 aluminum shift fork performs pretty well. When in racing/agressive shifting environment, this is the result. Most of the 04 and newer T56's were built with steel 3-4 shift forks so Tremec must knew that it was the weak point.

Mine is bent, which has pretty much killed third gear. I am not looking forward to the rebuild cost.

****, that sucks man. I have a feeling mine is on it's way out...

Sometimes (and I mean only sometimes, like randomly) when I shift into 3rd or 4th it feels like it kind of just floats there for a second and then engages the gear with a jerky feeling. It has never done this with any other gear. It used to be just 3rd but now 4th is starting to do it as well. I know that's not a very good description but that's the best way I can put it. Like it just hangs for a second after I've put the shifter in gear and I let the clutch out and then it jerks. Is this a sign that I need a new 3-4 shift fork?

The awesome thing is, they went back to aluminum forks in the TR6060/T56 Magnum. Between that and the tiny little teeth on the sliders, maybe it will provide another 10-15 years of work for the rebuilders in the country.

Its not real common but I have seen it several times. Usually its those guys with the real heavy hand who do that type of damages.

If your 3-4 shift fork was broken, you would know! Yours sounds like the fork pads are going.

Yes, I would agree. Most T56 3-4 forks do pretty well except for the guys who really thrash it at the track.

New 2009 Corvette $60,000
New aftermarket wheels and tires $6,000
After putting 500 miles on the brand new car, the trans cooler line comes off and cooks the TR6060 PRICELESS!!!

Yeah those bigger, wider, tougher gears aren't worth a crap if ran without oil in the unit. I had a customer call me a few months ago looking for the midplate on a Vette. He said all hell broke loose in the front area and tore up the plate.

I think I'd rather stick with a Viper spec T56 built with all the upgraded stuff over a TR6060/T56 Magnum myself.

I do agree about a built T56 but the TR6060 has held well with very high HP cars.
