You'll get answers with many opinions on this question some like Redline D4; some Mobil 1, some Amsoil, some Royal Purple, etc. I have tried Redline, Mobil 1 and fresh "stock" Dexron III (actually now the new designation is 88861800) . Of them I prefer the Dexron III, Mobil 1 was good too.

DO NOT use Syncromesh Trans Fluid it will out a film on the synchronizer frictional surfaces and cause problems. Also if a pre-2008 don't use Dexron VI. Here are more details:

Document ID# 1897292

Subject:Manual Transmission Fluid Usage In 2007 And Prior Manual Transmissions And Transfer Cases - keywords case fluid manual transmission transfer #PIP3836B - (02/05/2007)

Models:2007 and Prior Passenger Cars and Trucks
2007 and Prior HUMMER H2
2007 HUMMER H3
2007 and Prior Saturn Passenger Cars and Trucks

This PI is superseded to add a note under concerns. Please discard PIP3836A.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

Use of manual transmission fluid part number 88861800 U.S. (88861801 Canada) in place of Dexron III.

Important Note: If the vehicle owners manual lists Dexron VI as the recommended transmission, transaxle or transfer case fluid disregard any information supplied in this PI. Use eSI and or the vehicle owners manual to determine what type of fluid should be used prior to referencing the below information

Recommendation/Instructions:

Manual Transmission fluid part number 88861800 U.S. (88861801 Canada) is currently available through GMSPO. Current and past model vehicles listed above with either a manual transmission or transfer case that REQUIRE Dexron III should use the above listed manual transmission fluid. This fluid is a direct replacement for Dexron III in manual transmissions and transfer cases. DO NOT use Dexron VI in place of the manual transmission fluid in any manual transmissions or transfer cases as a failure may result.

im using the mobil 1 since i got my car dec08 w/40k on the clock. 10,000 miles later i like it, takes a while to warm up in winter but I would use mobil 1 again. Felt like it changedup the feel of the shifter too.

I tried Mobil 1 a while ago. I did't like it at all. my trans was way too notchy. I tried many different synthetic fluids from Redline D4 to Royal purple to Mobil 1 and everything inbetween. I've also tried tons of regular dex 3 fluids as well. So far the best I tried which is currently in my trans right now is Penzoil dex3 ATF. It works great, my trans has never shifted so smooth plus its cheap!

the opposite of smooth. kinda of a robotic/mechanical feel. Also feels like the gears are clashing with eachother while shifting.

I'm also not a huge fan of the feel from the Mobil 1. I liked it, but now it's getting kind of annoying. It did quiet the tranny down a bit tho for me (my MGW transfered more noise)

However, Tremec says Mobil 1 is the most recommended, so I dunno.

update, went back to DEX III, much much smoother

when shifting it feels like theres oil in the trans now instead of water.

funny i experienced just the opposite. my 40k trans used to grind in cold weather going into 5th. changed it to mobil 1 atf and that went away and shifted a lot smoother.
