I believe that's a matter of the master cylinder being adjusted. In fact, that's the way I prefer it but I'm going to fab a different pivot design for the pedal to shorten the overall travel.
If I could have a pedal that travels 8" and engages through the 1"-7" range I'd be a happy camper

I had the SPEC 2+ installed in September and mine engages about the same. I bled the **** out of it and the shifting improved but engagement never changed. I also still have a problem shifting at high rpm. Doesn't want to go into gear cleanly. I'm finally going with the Tick Master Cylinder next week. This should take care of both issues

I had all kinds of high rpm shifting issues with my spec. Pulled the spec and installed an Exedy Hyper twin with the same hydros bleed just the way I did the spec and guess what! No more sticky clutch pedal with stock hydraulics! Imagine that!

The engagement really doesn't bother me. It's the notchy shifting that is the issue. After the 45 minutes spent bleeding the clutch last night I still had to force it into reverse and sometimes it wouldn't even go into reverse. My buddy is checking the car out today.

I installed a Spec 2+ in my 01' about 3 years ago, and have put about 7k miles on it after the break in process. Mine engaged at the exact same place, my reverse was hard as could be also, however that was because my reverse solenoid was not plugged in...dummy me, this also caused my reverse lights to not work, I plugged that back in on the tranny and it worked like a charm. The pedal engagement has never changed, but I would definately consider going with an adjustable master, simply to take out any potential shimming problems.

My reverse lights work so I'm assuming that plug is plugged in. Sigh I really hope I don't have to replace the master right now lol

My SPEC 2+ was like that also... after it died on me and I upgraded to the 3+ I also installed a Tick MC, new slave and a speed bleeder. Shifts pretty damn good now. I forgot what is was like to be able to shift on the floor again.

I'm sure you can upgrade you hydros and fix the notchy shifting issues. You shouldn't have to but a lot have had success doing that. I drive a caddy and I'm stuck with the stock hydros unless I want to fab something which I don't. I have no choice butt to find a clutch that works with stock hydrolics and can still handle 500rwhp. My Exedy twin does all of the above! : )

If the new master helped everything but reverse then it is possible that you are seeing an issue with the shifter or even with reverse. Where does engagement occur now?

Engagement is the same but it doesn't bother me now that I'm used to it. I actually find it easier to drive haha. I'm going to play around with the shifter assembly and see if there is an issue there.
