R&R just the 3-4 synchro? I have been having some 3rd gear issues and am pretty sure I need a new 3-4 synchro. Trans (98-02 model) works and sounds normal aside from an occasional 3rd gear grind when cold and sometimes finding a hidden gate between 3 and 5. Only when cold. Get it hot and it performs flawless.

Fresh, full fluid and a properly working clutch with more than enough air gap at shift RPM. I know a full rebuild should be done but there is no budget for it nor will there be one as all extra $$ is put side for house shopping later this year. But I also do not want to mess the trans up anymore by driving it with this issue. So can I tear it down and put just a new 3-4 synchro in it with no other major work and it will work as normal? If it doesn't have one I will also add a steel fork at that time. Trans history is unknown as I bought it used online to swap into my '82. Told it was rebuilt but I truly doubt that.
