Default 6 speed for Gen 1 sbc

I want to get the man pedal in my vette. Its my autox/DD at the moment so would like to get used to driving it with a stick before hitting a roadcourse. And the better MPG is a plus.

Ive heard the LT1 T56 is the way to go as its a push(or pull) setup. The one I need in other words.

Is this a fairly easy swap?

I know Ill need the trans, slave, clutch, flywheel, and DS. Am I missing anything?

Is there a better trans to go with?

You can go with either a LT1 style or the LS1 style depending on the rest of the parts you get for the conversion.

I swapped an LT1 T56 onto my previous L98 (gen-1) SBC and it was great. You'll be glad you did the swap.

Easy question, hard to answer. How many bricks are in a pile? How long is a piece of string?

Not knowing your skill level and shop equipment makes your question impossible to accurately answer...but if you can't look at what's involved and answer it for yourself then it will probably be a difficult project.

Need more stuff. Bellhousing, master cyl/hose/reservoir, clutch/brake pedal set, bolts, crossmember, wiring for VSS/etc, shifter, PCM software, all come to mind.

Yes, the XTrac sequential trans is a better gearbox.

I have access to a lift and had dropped 5 or 6 transmissions from various cars. The 700r4 has been out 3 times so far in the vette.

Thanks for the better list

Sounds good, that was about my experience level when I did my swap also.

Cutting the hole in the floorpan/tunnel for the shifter was the only difficult part I encountered, all else was bolting and wiring.
