Default Need a new clutch, I want a STIFF SOB

Well, at only 3500 on my centerforce, the clutch didn't have enough holding power to get my car onto a drive-on lift the other day. So its time for a new one. The previous owner of the clutch ran it on the dyno with nitrous so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

So, like the title says, I want a clutch that has some serious pedal to it. I know its kind of hard with a hydraulic clutch, but personally I like the feel and effort of a cable clutch so I'd like to get one that takes some leg-work to use. I don't think I will need a twin disk, but the future holds approximately 600hp so it needs to handle that well.

Since this is the exact opposite that most guys ask for, I don't think the vendors will be too much help since they spend their time making clutches easier not harder. Anybody have a suggestion for me? I'm not too particular on brand as long as its reputable. I'm guessing I'm going to have to over-clutch for my power goal to get the feel I want.

why do you want something so stiff when you can get a single disk clutch to hold 900-1000 ft/lbs of torque and it is still relatively easy. I think they are advertising the new Monster twin disk to have a fairly easy pedal and they hold well over 1000 ft/lbs. Also do you still have the stock master cylinder?

Spec 3 clutch + Tick master cylinder = grain truck pedal effort. Probably one of the stiffest pedals for a diaphragm-type clutch that I've ever driven. I'm like you, I don't like crazy light pedals that feel like I'm driving a stock honda civic.

Monster stg 3 + tick master cylinder + clutch assist spring removed. Holds 700hp/700tq and is decently firm. I like it so far.

I agree I hate light clutch pedals too. I get in some vehciles and I think damn I just put a hole in their floorboard cause I pushed the clutch pedal so hard. I may just be used to driving a Chevy 4500 port a potty truck that has a 6 speed and its a linkage style clutch, so it's STIFF. Right now my car has a spec 5 and tick master and it doesnt seem all that bad.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, most people I have talked to looked at me like I was nuts for wanting a tougher pedal. My roommates 350z pedal is so weak I literally can't feel it through my shoe, it drives me nuts.

I have a wilwood master cylinder, it looks like a stock one but its made of metal, I don't know how much that figures in. I have had a monster lvl 3 before and it wasn't particularly tough that I remember, so it looks like the spec 3 and the one Billy suggested are the good options right now.

Its just my preference. If I could have a cable style clutch I would do it in a heartbeat.

Our 12" Monsters are designed NOT to have a stiff pedal, however, our 11" Monsters are designed TO have a stiff pedal. They check in at just over 3500 lbs of plate load and mixed with a Tick adjustable master have a pretty stiff pedal.

If you have further questions just give us a call!

I had a monster lvl 3 before and it was pretty stock feeling. I'll give you a call tomorrow and see what you have to offer.

Stage 3+ is the way to go, though i don't think that it is excessively stiff. Of course I guess I get used to driving all kinds of assemblies for development...so I may be a bit biased. Let me know if you have any further questions and I will be more than happy to assist you!!

really ? Mine is alot firmer than the stock clutch pedal. Nothing crazy, but definitely stiffer.

I have the centerforce dual friction and love how firm it is. The first time I drove my brothers with a stock clutch I thought I was going to have to pull the pedal back up.

Well, now my clutch plans have to go on the shelf due to a $626 electricity bill. They're telling me its legit but theres just no way in hell my bill went from $60 to $600 in a month.

Another vote for a spec 3+ and a tick master cylinder whenever you get the funds built back up. Everybody that drives my car bitches about how stiff it is lol.
