Default 5th gear kinda slipping

got a t56 thats going into an s10 truck with a 5.3. 5th gear is slipping when i spin the input shaft with much force. also is making a sound like the gears are just skimming across one another. all other gears are solid. opened the case up for just a visual inspection and all the gears look to be in really good shape. was told tranny had 60k on it. any input would be appreciated.

Does 6th gear work fine, or is it like 6th?

IF only 5th, it sounds like it's not fully engaging the gear, which would be a fork pad or synchro key problem. Once engaged, the gears are locked and there's no chance of "slipping".
