Default New Delco Slave Cylinder Bad?

I just had a new Delco 01-02 slave installed in my T56 and I'm told by the shop that installed it that the part was "defective" and needs to be replaced.

Anyone had a similar experience? Should I send the "bad" part out for forensic study? Is it possible to mess these things up installing them? My expectation is that they are built to be bombproof.

They could have accidentally over extended it while trying to bench bleed it. Slaves are so simplistic it's actually very hard to mess them up. Heat is what will destroy the rubber seal inside of one. They are pretty much just like a brake caliper.
