Default C5 Z06 clutch is good for how much power?

I just ordered one because as I understand it, it is a direct replacement for my clutch. I'm bone stock without any significant plans to modify, but I've thought about doing some future basic bolt-ons and a cam for 400-450 rwhp. Will I be good to go with that clutch?

Is there anything else that is important to replace with it while the tranny is out?

im pretty sure that clutch comes stock in the 01-02 fbodys, i do know the clutch isnt very strong and for a car with 450 rwhp you would be better off with a spec or equivalent clutch.

what year is your car? 01-02 fbodies came with the ls6 clutch. im at 60k miles with basic bolt ons and its slipping. i'd say if you want the stock feel, get the C6 Z06 clutch.

Back in the day Zo6's which were far lighter would smoke those clutches with ease when raced hard. Our race weight takes it out of the normal "spec HP range" I was bearly making 350 rwhp and with 30-35k on the clock and it was basically dead.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I drive a '97 C5. As it turns out that the old Z06 clutches are not in stock, because they say that they're "out of date." That said, will an LS7 clutch kit bolt-on without any modification?

Thanks again,

Chris

Yes the LS7 clutch will work fine for your setup! Just buy the LS7 clutch kit with flywheel. Thats what I plan on buying for my 01 Z06 clutch when my stock LS6 clutch goes out! I have bolt ons and tune making 380 to the wheels with a LS6 clutch.

I have a friend with a camaro heads, cam, and fast intake making about 450 with the LS7 clutch and he beats the crab out of it all the time still holding.

i went with a monster satge 3. I dug a lil deeper in research about the LS7 clutch and didnt like what i had found. Of course its all in how one drives plus TRACK time. If you plan on goin to the track frequently i wouldnt suggest a LS7. If you know EXACTLY what you plan to do with the car then plan accordingly. I dont know about you guys, but i like having "cushion" in the clutch i select in power range. Thats the last thing you need is to add a lil more power to the car and low in behold the clutch is slipping again. Go in 1 time and 1 time only if at all cost.

I know what you mean, SStheBest. That's why I've got a Spec stage 3+ on the mustang. The Corvette has always been a cruiser and I have not touched it in terms of modifications because I didn't want to have 2 money pits, as I have a 1200hp Mustang. I can't help but think about doing some stuff to the vette, though. I don't want to kick myself down the road, but I know I don't want to go nuts and that I want to keep its manners and mileage stock-like, which means a mild cam (224ish duration @ .050"). Plus, I have a preference for OEM parts that are likely to be reliable. Sounds like the LS7 clutch is for me.

Thanks. Ordered the LS7 clutch w/ flywheel bolts, the LS2 flywheel, pressure plate bolts, and both bearings, pilot and throw-out. Also ordered a new slave cylinder, too.

For the tranny, I've got a new reverse gear on the way, as well as the Carbon Fiber synchro kit, bronze clutch-fork pads, and billet forks.

Also ordered rear tires. Between that and labor, wow, I think I just spent about 1/3-1/4 of the car's value. It'll be worth it though. At least I don't have a car payment.
