Talking Finally got a M6 swap ((( PICS)))

Hey guy kinda been browsing about for the last hour in this M6 section and figured i would post some pic of my new toys. The swap is out of a wrecked 02 Firehawk with only 39,000 mile on it. The tranny was super clean and the peddle assembly didn't even have wear makes on the peddle pads. my car is a 98 btw. i believe i got everything that i need minus pcm and harness, which i plan to rewire my 4l60e harness anyways. Anyways,i was wanting to get yall guys opinion on a couple things b4 i started the swap.

1. should i replace the slave or master cyclinder? i will do the drill mod !
2. what does my clutch plate and pressure plate look like?
3. would it pay off to have the tranny inspected b4 i put it in the car?

thanks in advance for any input. hope the pics are 56k friendly lol

i'm getting ready to undertake this same job on! i have a 98 SS A4, and i just scored a running and driving 98 Z28 M6 with 102K miles for $1900 as a donr car for my M6 swap

i'm planning on doing mine in next month.

i'm having my trans built with the viper spec kit, hurst shifter, all new GM hydraulics, and the LS7/LS2 clutch/flywheel combo from scoggin dickey.

sounds good man. the nice thing about your swap will be having a m6 harness and pcm to swap.

im halfway through my swap now, i took the other way of buying new stuff so i didint have to deal with bad clutch hydraulics later on. Personally, i would replace the master cylinder with a tick piece. If you look at this particular forum, every other thread has a title of something like "wont shift" or "clutch stuck to the floor" etc. So with you having the chance to now, I would replace as many weak links as you can.

As far as the swap goes, the hardest part for me so far was taking out the auto, so its been pretty good so far. on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being something like an oil change and 10 being something hard like building an F/I setup or changing the last passenger side spark plug (ha) id say its about a 5. one piece of advice, when you install the pedals, TAKE OUT THE STEERING COLUMN, its so easy and makes the install of the M/C so much easier.

Inspect the pressure plate for uneven surfaces, hot spots. Have it resurface if there are significant unevenness or just buy a new one. Replace the MC and the slave a new one. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the throw out bearing either. Those are cheap to replace and a piece of mind to know those are good to go when you put them in your car.

I did mine about 2 years ago and I never looked back. I love having a 6 speed, it makes the car alot more fun to drive.

Oh btw, it is cheaper to re wire you auto to work w/ the M6. Just get the pigtails.

1. should i replace the slave or master cyclinder?
Both.

2. what does my clutch plate and pressure plate look like?
Used-up stock pieces. You could probably clean up the surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate w/ fine emery cloth on a flat sanding block and get decent miles out of it.

3. would it pay off to have the tranny inspected b4 i put it in the car?
Yes, but would take a teardown to be of any use...significant $$ involved for a shop to do it.

It's going to more complicated to launch a manual than an auto. Gotta find out to where to slip the clutch when launching it and not break the 10 bolt. But I doubt you'll feel slower w/ the manual.

I gave up on gettting faster ET when I swapped my M6 because I'm not ready to fork up $2K+ rear end.

Looks sweet man. Could anyone send me a PM with a list of everything I need to do a M6 swap?? I would greatly appreciate it. I want to start mine this winter and im unsure of everything I need. Also, I know a 93-97 t56 will fit but what mods need to be done to it? Any help would be nice. Thanks

Not to thread jack but what was your fastest. Oh and btw, I'm in the process of swapping mine from auto/stall to m6. I bought a second hand tick though, and a fresh stage 3 spec. Get a decent clutch bro, don't put the stocky in there..just my .02

Once you get the kick panel pieces out (those two plastic covers above the pedals) youll see its actually pretty easy. There is a "V" shaped bracket that seems to support the kick panel, that comes out with two nuts on wither side, i believe there are either 13mm or 10mm

then you unplug all the connectors, I found it easier to undo all but the two on top of steering column before actually dropping it, then those once you have a little better access.

Then there are 3 13mm bolts in the firewall and two 13mm nuts that hold the column to the dash, pop those off then the one 11mm bolt in the engine bay and youre done.

i think thats all, but i promise youll spend longer reading that then you will actually doing it. enjoy.

stuff needed, i used this: GMHTP A4 to M6 swap

but read through the sticky as well, theres tons of info in there.

as for an LT trans in an LS car, I know the input shaft is a different length and i think there are some other differences as well. the general consensus is that its not worth it.

is there anyway to reinforce the firewall after i cut and install my MC. i know the M6 cars have extra support around the MC hole.

i also went ahead and replaced my TOB and slave. tried the drill mod with a .128 drill bit and cut a damn hole in the side of the hose i beleive. so not im seriously think about the tick MC bc the stock MC braided hose cost 70$$
