New bell housing, now won't go into gear....
Installed a new McCleod bell housing for my t56. Replaced the clutch while i had the trans out. Spec Stg 2+ installed. Installed the shim supplied by Spec. Now with everything in and the hydraulics bled once manually, and once using a pressure bleeder, I cannot get the car to go into gear. The pedal feels good, but it seems like I'm not getting enough throw to disengage the clutch. I didn't measure because I didn't think I had to, but is the McCleod bell housing deeper than my stock, and therefore holding the trans and slave farther from the clutch?? Is there a thicker shim I should be using? Is neither one of these the problem and I have something else wrong?? Really need to get the car going or I'll be towing it home from work next week. Thanks!

yes it is deep. just like all aftermarket bellhousings. my quick time pushed the trany back a little over an inch.
not sure what mcleod is. pretty sure i was once told close to 1.25" but call them. ask them they can help. i have there clutch. great guys to talk to with problems.

Personally I would bolt the factory bellhousing back on and determine that the new SPEC clutch releases with all factory items in place. From there we can figure things out. The rule of thumb is to make one performance modification at a time to determine a baseline.

Thank you for the advice! I just pulled the McCleod bell housing out and put it on the bench next to the factory housing. Put a straight edge across the two, and the McCleod is deeper by about a 1/4". If I take away the engine guard plate from the McCleod (which is nearly a 1/4" thick) the two are even. I'm going to install the factory bell housing just to see if things work again. I will update when I finish.

So it looks like I have a clutch hydraulics issue. Factory bell housing is installed and the same problem remains. I'm thinking I may need an adjustable clutch master cylinder. There are no leaks from the slave cylinder, but I may as well replace that also.

Thank you! I already have a slave I've had for a bit and saved for a just in case situation and I think a buddy of mine has an adjustable master he never put in before he sold his car. If I end up needing anything I'll be getting back to you. Thanks again!
